holocaust cartoon contest?

I just came across this while checking a newsgroup I peruse at times.

I don’t even know what to say, except that I’m kind of surprised. the entire idea that they would have a contest to create a holocaust denying cartoon in retaliation for the Mohammed cartoon seems childish to me.

Why would you be surprised?

This sort of thing is typical of these people.

What I want to know is, if it was a Danish paper and Danish cartoonists who did editorial cartoons about Mohammed . . . how the hell did the Holocaust and the Jews get into it? Why isn’t it a “Those Lousy Danes!” contest?

As the daughter of two holocaust survivors, I hoped that the world’s reaction would be no reaction. This contest is meant to be inflamatory (d’uh), there is no other purpose, so don’t react, don’t argue, just ignore.

That’s what I hope will happen…
I miss Jewish smiley guy ;j

Because of course everything’s the Jews’ fault. Get with the program.

More seriously, a number of European countries (specially Germany and Austria) actually DO outlaw expressions of Nazism and Holocaust-denial; so the folks in this case probably figure, who the hell can tell one damned infidel from another, they’re all the same.

Yes, childish as hell, but in the end it’s not for the sake of the Danes, it’s for the sake of keeping their home constituents nicely distracted at hating others so they do not pay attention to how their government is shafting them.

The idea is that the Holocaust is supposed to sacrosanct in Europe, something that people aren’t allowed to question or make fun of. (Given that some countries will literally throw you in prison for questioning the Holocaust–even if you’re a citizen of another country who’s just visiting, and even if your denial took place in a country where Holocaust denial isn’t illegal–there’s some truth to this.) The idea of the Holocaust cartoon contest is basically tit-for-tat: “Hey, you offended us, now we’re going to offend you.”

Once again, Israel has beaten them to the punch.

This is what I’m talkin’ about-

No outrage, no angry rhetoric.
