I have no idea how we’re going to get this house packed before we move.
I’ve been going through and throwing away anything I don’t need or have a sentimental attachement to. Two of my favorite moments were throwing out a bottle of contact lens solution that expired before we moved in…in 2003…and finding a CD tower with all my husband’s CDs in it in the basement that still had the packing tape on it from the last time we moved it with all the CDs in it.
Ended up getting $65 when we sold those.
Thank goodness for my in-laws, who come over and watch the energetic toddler while we wear ourselves out boxing stuff up and throwing stuff out.
Me too! We’ve also been tossing non-essentials, since we’re using a moving cube, and we still have another month before we can move into our new place, so we’ll be staying at a different, furnished apartment for August. Then moving halfway across the country. With an infant and 2 cats.
This morning while I was making lunch for work I got into a cleaning streak in the fridge/freezer - and threw away some frozen pineapple from Aldi. We haven’t shopped at Aldi in 9 months, so it was one solid mass of pineapple. Also, a bag of cranberries that were at least 1.5 years old. We have FIVE broken microwaves to get rid of. They kept breaking, and we kept thinking we’d get rid of them later! It’s a hazard to have a guest room when you rarely have over-night guests - it gets filled with everything you should just get rid of instead.
I’m moving this weekend and I haven’t done a single thing except book a U-Haul for Saturday. It’s nice to still be in the “friends, beer, and pizza” phase of my moving life, not to mention that I’m only moving a few miles across town. Maybe I’ll go home and pack my winter clothes into some suitcases tonight just to save a little time later on.
Good luck with getting your stuff sorted out… and make sure you take at least a day or two off from stressing over it in those 2.5 weeks!
Twice I’ve had 72 hours to find a place, pack up and move. *
It sucks as much as you might imagine. Actually, it sucks more. My record is three moves in six months.
*My exhusband used to do security for apartment complexes, which included a free apartment as part of the rent. He got fired a lot. 72 hours to vacate, no money, and…yeah, wow, it just sucked.
