Since we are on the subject of Price is Right, here is a clip that is pretty funny.
The luckiest man on earth
You have to see it to believe how lucky this guy is. There is only one way he could have one bigger but I won’t ruin it for you.

I think that a good part of TPIR’s popularity is the fact that it is a throw back to all those hokey game shows of the 70’s. What else could explain the fact that they still use that ridiculously tiny mic?
I haven’t seen the clip, but I think that if Drew likes the contestant he will be as psyched as anybody. If the contestant is an ass, Drew doesn’t give a rat’s whether he wins.
If there was fraud involved the episode wouldn’t have aired. It was probably taped at least a month ago, so they’ve had time to investigate it.
FWIW, this appears to be the previous record.
What the…! Bob didn’t say anything about spaying pets! FAKE!
That was back in the days when they still had fur coats as prizes. Notice that he didn’t get both showcases either.
I watched that clip Strider posted. Drew went absolutely bananas for everything the kid won after the first prize that got him on stage.
I haven’t watched the show in 20+ years, but I know I’ve seen someone guess the exact amount on the showdown at least once or twice. Is it really that rare for someone to do this?
According to the Golden-Road.netFAQ, there has been one other perfect showcase bid. It was in the first or second season, before the double showcase winner rule was in effect. There was one tie in a nighttime version of TPIR that used to run in syndication in the 70’s. This version was hosted by Dennis James instead of Bob Barker for a while. There has never been an instance of a tie when both contestants were within the Double Showcase limit. The closest call for somebody going over in a showcase is by $1, which has happened twice. There is a Youtube clip of the second instance, where the woman bid $12,000, but the actual price was $11,999!
That link posted by Harvey just reminds me of how great Bob Barker was on stage, and makes me dislike Drew’s funereal reaction even more.
FYI, here’s a new Esquire magazine article about this story. (This is another thread about the same episode.)
That is a great article. Thanks.
I do understand why Drew Carey was pissed. I wondered what he was thinking.
Thanks for the article link.
Jesus wept! “Deal or no Deal” or as we call it in our house “guessing with a c*nt”
For those with the stomach, this is the c*nt in question.
I weep for our lost collective intelligence.
Why would he be pissed?
EDIT : After reading the other thread, I see now.
Joe
I don’t think I heard about this when it happened. What a fascinating article… It’s Plinko game of emotions.
I’m sorry. Why do you weep? What do you mean?
It’s a gameshow that consists almost entirely of blind luck. The only “skill” involved is deciding when to bail, which comes down to deciding by fiat how much extra certainty is worth to you.
Awesome article. Makes rewatching the video that much more incredible and interesting (Drew’s half chuckle before he reads the actual retail value, his angry slap on the counter as he says he got it right on the nose). It always seemed wrong to me that Drew was so flat, but it makes perfect sense now.
When I was growing up, I always wondered why more people didn’t win the Price is Right. I always figured you could just know how much stuff costs and get everything right. I’m glad to know someone tried.
