Holy Crap! Or, Milwaukee Dopers, can you help me find info?

I just found out that someone I used to know (nice guy, too, when I knew him) is about to go on trial for attempting to kill his wife, in an early-morning stabbing attack last May in West Allis that went on for several hours.

I found the court case in the Wisconsin Circuit Court records (and the subsequent divorce filing), but the info there is very basic. Had no luck searching the JSOnline archives, and also tried the West Allis paper and the Appleton Post-Crescent (he used to live there) with no luck. Google News turned up nothing, and I didn’t expect it to. I’m usually good at ferreting out online information, but I’m stumped here.

So, Milwaukee Dopers, have you seen or heard anything about Erin Cottrell trying to kill his wife Deborah? According to the WCC record, the trial starts Dec. 16.

Kee-rist!!!

Anyone? Anyone?

I’m guessing that as it’s probably only a “assault” trial, since she didn’t die, it won’t appear on the Internet, or in the Milwaukee papers. Lots of trials for assault all the time, they don’t make the news.

Well, a mutual friend has sent me a copy of an online article from Sunday’s paper. Oddly, it doesn’t mention their names – seems odd since this is all in public records. According to the court record and the article, the charges are attempted first-degree intentional homicide, aggravated battery and false imprisonment while armed.

I guess I have as much information as I’m going to get.

My friend’s mom is the DA for Milwaukee County. I’ll send him email, see what I can see.

Wow, thanks, typo mna – you’re pretty well connected! But I’d hate to go that high up. I was just hoping to find an online article, and I guess I have. The one I read this morning was pretty detailed.

Well, I’ll find out if she knows of any resources where you can learn more.
