Richard Lewis?
That’s it. I just looked it up on IMDB.
Horrible, horrible.
I never found Monty Python funny, even as I respected their talent. It felt like watching creative graffiti, full of wacky free association and intellectual references… but nothing actually laugh inducing.
85-90% of Monty Python skits are really bad. And I say that as a fan. It’s the 10-15% that gets it right that makes it one of the greatest comedy shows in history.
Does anyone actually find this neurotic jerk-off funny?
As an actress, Janeane Garofalo can make me laugh, but her stand-up routines are awful.
I guess I can see why people would laugh at Margaret Cho if they were pissed off at the world or somehow found ordinary Korean mannerisms extremely funny, but I have yet to crack a smile at anything she’s said. I just don’t get her sense of humor.
And Larry the Cable Guy sucks to no end.
The redneck guy “You might be a redneck if…”
Also Larry the Cable Guy. What a fucking racist. I cant’ stand that son of a bitch and I wince at most of his material.
I never thought Steve Martin was particularly good as a standup comedian, but he’s a pretty good comic actor.
Adam Sandler. What a no-talent nothing. Why his movies continue to make money just amazes me…
Adam Sandler, Rob Schnieder, Pauly Shore, Carrot Top I’m sure there are more.
I fucking love David Sedaris though. YMMV
Will Ferrell
Martin Lawrence
Bill Hicks
And a couple of Australian comedians you won’t have heard of:
Wil Anderson
Adam Hills
That show was unwatchable, IMO. Could not STAND it and all because of her.
I recently wrote this in my LJ, about Don Rickles:
“I attempted to watch the Daily Show episode with him as a guest. I couldn’t do it. He’s so annoying and almost violently unfunny that it was making me angry and raising my blood pressure just to watch. I had to turn it off. How did this guy make a career out of comedy?!”
Chris Rock.
Chris Rock.
And
Chris Rock.
I think he stole all of the black people not being liked by white people from the 60s, added a few swear words and people just eat it up. Sorry, old schtick.
The sad thing is that he has good delivery. Just old crap.
greatshakes
Nope does nothing for me either. Of course I happen to know the event that Humpty Dumpty is actually satirizing. So his rambling about eggs and hooves falls completely on its face for me. Here’s a big hint for all comedians. Do not rely on me to be as uninformed as you are.
I love David Sedaris, but I agree with the OP that neither Naked nor Barrel Fever are particularly hilarious. Me Talk Pretty One Day, OTOH, is hysterical. And I adore his readings on This American Life.
I also find Terry Pratchett to be mildly amusing at best, and Family Guy to be downright unfunny. It’s weird because a lot of people I agree with on What Is Funny love both Pratchett and Family Guy.
Will Ferrell
Drew Carey
Jerry Seinfeld
Steve Martin
Chris Farley
Another vote for Sasha Baron Cohen. Anything I’ve ever seen him in / do has just been about as painful as those kids in school who used to laugh at the Special Ed classes. Ugh how I hate that.
I’m not sure who’s responsible for the show with the talking happy meal, but they need to choke and die.
You too, huh? There are few things more funny-killing to me than a comedian reveling in ignorance (though using irony to make fun of the ignorant is often good for a laugh). Reminds me of a comedian (Arsenio Hall, I think) who went on at length about how nonsensical and seemingly drug-fueled the lyrics to Yankee Doddle were, while I was thinking about the vagaries of colonial slang.
Totally agree on both. Especially Silverman. Most of her humor value seems to be based on the shock factor of a (moderately) cute girl saying such shocking things. Likewise for Dane Cook, to a lesser extent. A lot of his fame I attribute to him being a good-looking guy in a field where so many are gawky, morbidly obese or just plain ugly.
Yell the following as loudly as you can:
WHITE people do THIS… :smack:
…but BLACK people do THIS!
Repeat ad nauseam and you have the Original Kings of Comedy.
