I’m at a rare loss for words.
I feel badly for the pilot, the apartment owner and the people who had to witness it… but boy, that’s still a pretty cool way to go.
Really sucks for everyone involved.
Still, if I had to choose, that is the way I’d like to go, except I would get up to about 15,000 feet first, so I could enjoy the trip down.
I guess I shouldn’t admit to that, being a pilot myself…
Strangely enough, I have a list of people I’d rather go that way than me.
Is “El Cajon” singular?
Eww! While I sympathize with this age and health issues, he endangered the pilot and people on the ground. Not a very courteous way to go.
“Well, that’s Dad all over!”
My dad has said on more than one occasion, that if he’s ever diagnoses with a terminal illness, then that is precisely what he plans to do.
I guess I’m a wimp.
If I am diagnosed with a fatal illness, I’ll take up smoking again.
First reaction - yes - very cool, very classy.
Closely (very closely) followed by reaction no. 2, being that is not fair at all. Suicide might be a perfectly valid choice, but dragging other people into one’s chosen final “adventure” is just not so good.
Did he get any frequent flier miles for his trip?
It wasn’t cool, it was cruel.
Cruel to the pilot, cruel to the bystanders who had to witness it without consent.
I feel sorry for the diagnosis the old man had received, but he went out thinking only of himself.
I guess he wanted to go out with a bang.
Or more of a wet thump.
I agree, he very easily could have caused harm to someone else, what if he’d hit someone’s house? (honey, were we expecting company?)
“Just thought I’d drop in.”
I agree with those who are upset on the behalf of anyone somewhat involved or endangered. However, possibly the elderly gentleman should be cut slack.
From the article:
“An elderly man recently diagnosed with a brain tumor”…
[Bolding and italicizing mine.]
Perhaps this was so recent that he wasn’t really thinking clearly and instead acted rashly and impulsively. That’s what I would think.
Or the tumor was doing the thinking for him.
His son Robert Frost said he thought there was something poetic about the whole affair. :o
He died living. THAT is poetic.
With any luck, this will be the teaser of a future episode of “Law & Order.”
The Road Less Travelled indeed and in deed.
