Holy crap! What kind of spider WAS this??

This:

thing crawled over my foot today as I sat shoeless on my deck. I live in the southern us, if that helps with ID.

Sorry the image is so blurry my hands were shaking from fright. It is about 1 1/2" long and brilliant orange with a HUGE abdomen or whatever they call it.

Not able to see the image…

Tweak tweak - Ewww that’s an icky spider!

This is a banana spider… I think your spider might be this with an egg sac.

Eh, picky of giant spider not available, Tripod keeps redirecting me to http://456321.tripod.com/adm/interstitial/remote.jpg
like I really wanted to look at it anyway, but now that I can’t, of course I MUST…

No idea on the spider, except big. Howerver, to see images hosted on tripod you have to copy and paste into your browser. Tripod doesn’t allow you to link directly to the pictures.

Marbled Orb Weaver?.

Note the similarilty on the legs. I believe that this was taken in Georgia, so it’s near enough to you.

Ah, thank you…

I like mosquitoes…I like mosquitoes…I like mosquitoes…

Apparently it’s non-poisonous (or is that venomous, I’m never sure). From what I saw on Usenet, even its bite isn’t that bad.

Not that that would help me with my little spider phobia  .

What, exactly, do you have to do to see this picture?

Highlight the URL. Copy. Paste into your browser.

Place the cursor over the link. Don’t left click. Instead, right click and select “Copy Shortcut”. Then, in a new browser window, place your cursor in the address bar, right click, and select “Paste”.

I am guessing yours was a male marbled orb weaver. The other link showed a female. This one looks more like yours. See this picture:spider

You have to copy the link text: http://456321.tripod.com/spider.jpg and paste into the browser’s address. You can type it in yourself if it makes you feel better.

Tripod knows the difference between clicking to get there and direct entry into the address bar. You can’t click a link directly to a Tripod picture.

Thanks, guys.

Let’s see now…

HOLY SWEET JESUS !!!

I’m sorry I asked.

Thanks, guys.

Hey! That’s kinda cute.

Hey! That’s kinda cute.

Anyone else have the urge to start hitting their monitor with a shoe? Or is it just me?

Darned if I know. I can’t see it by copying and pasting, either… It still gives me the same “Hosted by Tripod” logo.
