Holy Mittelschmerz!

TMI ALERT: This thread may make members of the male species uncomfortable.

I’m 33. I got my first period when I was 14, so I’ve had it for over half my life. When I was young, I had menstrual cramps (Mittelschmerz, literally translated as “middle pain”, is the German term) like you wouldn’t believe. Not so bad that I got to stay home from school or anything (then again, my dad wouldn’t let me stay home from school if I was bleeding out my eyes) but they <Brooklyn Accent>hoit.</Brooklyn Accent>

Then I gained some weight, got older… no more cramps.

Now I’ve lost weight and HOT DAMN if those crampages aren’t back with a vengeance. PLUS! A little diarreah to go along with them! AND! Gas!

Being a woman is just wonderful. If it weren’t for the breasts, I’d quit.

I should have said: This thread may make male members of the species uncomfortable.

Nope, didn’t bother my member.

: d&r :

I’m kinda partial to “male species”, myself.

I feel you pain. No really, I do. Right now. I had to wake up my husband last night around 3 am because I felt it absolutely necessary to tell him I hurt and there was nothing he could do about it but I wanted him to feel bad. I’m so pleasant this time of month.

You’re sticking around womanhood for the breasts? Personally, I’m in it for the ability to match clothes, but I like your idea better.

You have to admit, they are kinda nice.

I like 'em. El Hubbo likes 'em. There’s one thing upon which we agree.

Oh yeah, Doubing Robert… ::drawing a bead::

Yew betta run, boy!

I thought Mittelschmerz was the pain you got in the middle of your cycle when you ovulate?

I get a bit of that but I’ve had maybe 2 cramps in my whole life.

I’ve always been fat, maybe there’s something to it?

Yeah, Mittelschmertz is the pain associated with follicular rupture, which produces an ovum to go down the fallopian tubes. It generally occurs at midcycle.

from www.emedicine.com/aaem/topic310.htm
Mittelschmerz (pronounced MITT-ul-schmurz) is a German word that means middle pain. The pain occurs during ovulation. Pain appears on one side of the lower abdomen midway between menstrual periods. The location is determined by which ovary has produced the ovum that month. It can show up on one side of the abdomen one month and switch to the opposite side during the following cycle.

Among women, 20% experience mittelschmerz. Most of the time it is a mild annoyance. In rare instances, it can be debilitating.

Yeah, Mrs. Dave-Guy has been known to stop in her tracks, bend slightly to one side and announce, “I’m ovulating. Oh joy.”

Not menstrual at all.

I also get these, and I’ve noticed that, as usual, I’m bucking the trends. I heard that both cramps and ovulation pains (Mittleschmerz) were usually less severe after having a child.

Both of these are much worse now. In fact, I’ve got a 10-day window of pain-free, normal time. And I have the gas and these weird “pole-up-the-butt” pains, like gas pains, but much more severe.

Yes, I’ve told the doctor about this. Advil is supposed to help. Yeah, right.

Woohoo.

D’oh! I guess the name of my thread should be “Holy Menstrual Krampfen!

Thanks for the clarification, Qadgop.

Ugh. Last few periods, I’ve woken up at three a.m. with inteanse pain the day before I started bleeding. The first time, I managed to wake up enough to stop moaning writhing piteously and get up and get some Advil, it was over. After that, I didn’t bother to get out of bed, and just rode it out–it lasted ten minutes, max. On the one hand, it was kind of nice to have the advance warning. On the other hand, OY THAT HURT! And I was actually sore for a couple of days!
I think I’ve experienced mittelschmerz (pronounced MITT-ul-shmairtz, by those who actually speak German  ) a few times, but it was more a twinge than a pain, so I can’t be sure. I suppose I feel little pangs all the time, and only really notice it when it roughly coincides with when I oughta be ovulating.
