My new office has great Musak- and it’s piped in through the phones, so if you don’t want to listen you can turn it off (or increase/decrease the volume)
Today I heard:
Layla (Clapton)
Some nice song from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack
Oh Very Young (Cat Stevens)
Learn to be Still (Don Henley)
Some groovin’ song by Steeley Dan
A Whiter Shade of Pale
I can’t get over it! Sure, there’s some crap mixed in, but generally speaking it’s awesome music. (And it’s not that instrumental crap- it’s real music!)
[continue hijack] So, is that’s what it’s about? Where do the sixteen vestal virgins fit in, or the “light fandango” from the first line? [/hijack]
When I worked as a cashier in a supermarket in the States, we had real music piped in. I endured countless hours of Garth Brooks, Amy Grant etc. The week before I left, during a lull when no one was coming through the checkouts, there was a jaw-dropping (well, to me anyway) sequence of “Here’s Where the Story Ends” by The Sundays, “King for a Day” by XTC, and “Time Capsule” by Matthew Sweet. None of these songs had ever been played before. Whoever had control of the piped music must have been reading my mind that day.
I happen to LIKE the songs I posted. Harumph! Better then the last losers I worked for who took away my little clock radio. (They developed a sudden “no radio” policy). Talk about “fugitive from the cubicle police”
They help make it sound more pretentious, like it was a real classy nightclub. She still drank too much, though it was the good stuff, and so it was that later, ss the Miller told his tale, that her face, at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale.
I’m blaming the waiter. He isn’t familiar with dram shop laws that make bars liable when they overserve. I mean, when we called out for another drink the waiter brought a tray, fercryinoutloud! Is that responsible? He was just fishing for a better tip.
That really is a killer “muzak” system. The variant we have in this office is a dozen Sony Walkman’s and earphones.
The local Weather Channel uses an old Allman Brothers cut for their background music. I’m still not sure if I’m supposed to be excited or depressed about it. :D:eek::rolleyes:
I was sure that Hell had frozen over the day I was walking through the grocery store and heard the Foo Fighters on the Musak. It wasn’t the Mentos song either!
