Holy shit. Nobody knows the difference between "lose" and "loose" any more.

Here, here!

You’re going the right way for a smacked bottom.

u need 2 losen up dude n stop loosin ur cool over the small stuff

In Vegas, they adverise loose slots, but you still lose in the end.

My pastor always mispronounces guarantee (GAR-an-tee instead of GARE-an-tee), bugs me to no end (and I can hear my mom grinding her teeth in the row behind me when it happens too) - at least if, based on the Power Point that’s up during the sermon, if it seems like he’ll be using the word soon, I can brace myself, but it still doesn’t make it pleasant.

Sadly, the lose vs loose misuse is so common that I fear it’s only a short time before the American Heritage dictionary will recognize it as an alternative form. It’s a slippery sloop.

That just sounds like a regionalism and a very acceptable pronunciation to me.

Peek, peak and pique is the new there, their and they’re.

There’s only one way out of this. We need to spell the word meaning to release something, ‘luse’, and the other word meaning the opposite of ‘find’, ‘luze’.

Thunder and lightening

Lightning! Damn it.

That can’t be as grating as my old pastor who would say “simular” instead of “similar”.

No no, the former is correct. The person was obviously referring to the style of hair highlight products.

We did.

Regionlism where? He is from Alberta, if that helps, I have yet to hear other Albertans speak that way.

I’ve had problems with loose / lose before. The way I remember the difference is loose has 2 o’s which are loose, bumping into each other.

It drives me crazy to see teenagers write school papers with the wrong there, their, and they’re. I saw one use the word “bout” instead of “about,” and another start a sentence with “Cause” instead of “Because.” Ahhhhh!!!

If you want to spell lose, you have to lose the extra O.

ETA: But don’t let it loose or you’ll get confused.

This thread is rediculous.

I’ve seen this:

“On *behave *of myself and the group”

Once again, the Family Circus is already on top of this subject
