So I’m on my way somewhere and spot a cop with what I assume was a radar gun up on an overpass. I go under the overpass and see three cops on the on ramp ready to pounce and seven people pulled over.
Holy crap.
It looked like an accident scene with all those flashing lights.
I was too at first. What a waste of money. Then I did the math
Let’s say each cop can pull over 4 people per hour and each ticket is $100
That’s $4000 PER HOUR, even if we go really uber conservative and say two tickets per hour per cop for a mere $100, that’s still $2000 their bringing in. I guess I’d sooner seem them doing that then raising taxes.
You know what they do here? They lurk on the side of the road with radar guns, at the top (or bottom) of a hill. Then they STEP OUT AND WAVE YOU OVER if they decide you’re speeding. For some reason, this seems totally lazy-ass to me.
Stupid speed traps. Where are the cops when people pass me illegally when I’m going the frakking speed limit now??
When I lived in southern Ohio almost 20 years ago, I remember seeing a state trooper standing in the MIDDLE of the expressway. There was a helicopter that was clocking cars and radioing to him which ones to flag over to the side. There were several troopers along side the road handing out tickets in a factory-like manner. I was really amazed at the guy standing in the lanes of the expressway the most though.
Now where I live just north of Detroit, it seems to take 3-4 police cruisers to pull over one single teen driver. What a waste.
