I am not a mod and am neither encouraging you to reply or not reply to him. Just making you aware that (if you aren’t already aware of it) you aren’t the first person who’s had this reaction to Bosda’s “I need help” threads.
I know, I know, I’ve been down this road before and that is a favorite thread of mine.
I typically only bash my head against the wall in a thread for so long before walking away.
I mean, look at this thread. There’s nothing else that can be done without any answers from the OP. Questions have been asked about what he’s looking for, why certain things will or won’t work, discussions need to happen etc.
If all he wants is a list air filters that aren’t hepa/ion and exist in the marketplace. Well, like I said, he can hoof it over to Target.
Ya know, I asked the question the way I did, because I was trying to prevent the Thread going sideways, like this one seems to ****be. {SIGH}
I really find it frustrating, when I put an OP up, & everybody ignores my attempts to exclude kindly-intended but unfortunate side trips into related areas. and somebody then tries to paint me as the bad guy.
As for your complaints, Fenris, I can only post to the SDMB in the evenings.
I can’t at work. And the South is damn hot.
By the time I get home, I’m tired–I’m boiled in my own juices, so my posts are neither long, nor peppy.
And therefore rather infrequent.
In an attempt to reply to the issues raised~~

[li]I own a small wall-mounted heat pump/ac, not a furnace[/li][li]I cannot afford to replace my current unit with a built-in HEPA filtering unit[/li][li]My unit does not use standard disposable furnace filters[/li][li] My Asthma makes ionic units impossible–the ozone they create plays Hell with my lungs.[/li][li] The Honeywell unit does have an ionizer, according to the questions section on Amazon[/li][li] I am not handy enough to modify that unit without the risk of fire.[/li]

The manual for the Honeywell HFD-010 air purifier linked to upthread says it produces a “small” amount of ozone, and that if someone wishes to avoid even that to stick with “true HEPA” air purfiers. Honeywell has several of those. There was one in the $200 range that could handle a 465 square foot space but I don’t think it has a permanent or washable filter. Another has a filter that can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner but can only cover 200 square feet.
