Home concert

For my Houston friends…

SWMBO and I are hosting a home concert on Wednesday, 11 September. Dave Nachmanoff, who is Al Stewart’s lead guitarist, will be performing. Arrive 6:30 or so, show starts at 7:00 and goes till 9:00 or so. We’re asking for a $20 contribution ($25 at the door) to cover Dave’s expenses.

I hope you guys can make it!

Clothahump, honey, you’re supposed to ask first. We probably would have said yes, so I’m not going to bust your chops about this – but please ask for permission to post threads like this.

Not in Houston and not familiar with Dave Nachmanoff, but I just wanted to second the whole idea of a house concert. My wife and I have attended a few, and the experience is vastly superior to that in 99% of regular concert venues. First off, if we’re talking about an acoustic performance, like this one probably is, the audience is quiet and respectful. Most artists at this level of popularity are playing bars, competing with the people who are just there to visit with their friends. Even the rare bar with a respectful audience, the clinking of glasses, the beeping of the cash register, etc., can ruin the atmosphere the artist is trying to create.

If you are interested at all, you should really go, if only to get some idea of how music can be presented.

twickster: I’m pretty sure it will evolve into a general thread about House Concerts.

<twists toe in dirt>

My bad. If I host another one, I’ll make sure I ask before I post.

Dave tours extensively, especially with Al, but he loves doing house concerts for the very reasons you expressed. To give everyone an idea of what it will be like, here’s Dave doing his song “RL” in a house concert.

Another house concert: “Let’s Eat”

You are right up close and personal. Maybe 25-30 people total, and you get to chat with Dave, buy autographed CDs, etc. If we have more than 30 folks show interest, we’ll move it across the street to the neigborhood clubhouse. It’s gonna be a blast!

Nice. In the Olden Days before tv and even radio, salon music was intended to be played by a soloist or small group in the home.

A bump for my Houston friends for the house concert with Dave Nachmanoff on September 11.

I have a supply of Dave’s DVDs on hand. If anyone would like to pre-order, the cost is $20 for one; buy 2, get one free (3 for $40). Titles available are

Wordless Rhymes
Snapshots
A Certain Distance
Candy Shower
Threads of Time
Time Before The Fall
Step Up

To pre-order, send payment via PayPal to crsears AT sbcglobal.net (email address munged to prevent spammers from grabbing it). Include the title(s) you want; I’ll set them aside for you.

And tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your neighbor’s friends about the concert. I still have a couple of VIP seats left!

The clock is ticking…just about two weeks to go! Still got room!

Last bump for this. It happens next Wednesday and if you aren’t there, you’re gonna miss out on something awesome!

HouDopers, I still have two “VIP” seats available. Get 'em while they are gettable.

What a wonderful evening and what a terrific show. Next time Dave comes back through Houston, we’re gonna do this again, and I hope you guys can make it.

Here are some shots from the show. Mike Lindauer came down from the Woodlands to play bass and Dave had me join in on a couple of songs.
