Home Repair Book: Recommend a Christmas Present

We are in our third year of home ownership, and my husband has gotten more interested in do it yourself home repairs as of late. He bought a random book on tiling from Lowes when we needed a tiling job, and had a good time poring through it even though he didn’t ultimately tackle the repairs himself. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good all-purpose home repair book? He already knows the basics, I think.

The one I use is Home Depot’s “Home Improvement 1-2-3.” Go to Home Depot and check it out (it’s the big orange book).

I concur with panache45. I got it when I bought my house and got a copy for my future SIL when she bought hers. I’ve consulted it several times.

It’s nice because it tells you off the bat how hard the project is going to be and whether you should bother to try or not.

Another vote for the Home Depot one. Lots of pictures and explanations geared towards newbies.

Does he have a cordless drill? If not, consider getting one of those too.

He does have a drill. Three endorsements plus able to be purchased without paying for shipping makes it a winner! Thanks guys!

Another vote for the Home Depot’s “Home Improvement 1-2-3” book.

Though it looks like you already bought it, so my vote does not count alas.

Yeah but now I know who the other right-thinking Dopers are so at least you got that out if it
