5 Gal ready to rack just fell on my bathroom floor and went everywhere. (so it was actually beer, not sticky sugar water, which is a plus I guess)
A untold number of gallons went onto the floor vent, the rest went into the walls and under the cabinets.
What is the best way to start to clean this all up?
And about the vent, I opened it up and used a wet-dry vac to get as much as I can out of the ducts- should I pour water in there and such that up as well, perhaps go to the nearby vents and spray water down there as well? Should I run the furnace to dry this out? There is no way to get to the ducts from underneath.
I did manage to get 1 glass of it which I will be having very shortly.
A bit of an update, I estimate I ws able to recover about 4 gal of it, mostly in the vent.
Right now I have the heat off, I am considering adding quite a bit of water down the vent and sucking that back up, then run the furnace to dry it out.
I’d be careful with the amount of water you pour into the duct work. My experience is that most isnt 100% sealed and seems and such may leak when a liquid is introduced. Then again you did retrieve quite a bit of of it from the duct so it seems as if that area is sealed rather well. Just a thought.
Due to a lack of responses (Mods you can send my partial refund to the address you have on file), I decided to flood the vents and then suck it back up. The 1st time I put down 2 gal, and didn’t measure the amount I got back, I added a bit of the no-rinse cleaner to this 1st batch, hoepfully to kill off the yeast. The next time I upped it with 3 gal (just water) and this time measured how much I got back (a bit more then 2.5 gal).
I had that same concern rayray5884 but it seems to hold pretty well. Any dripping would be in the crawlspace, which I’m not thrilled about, but it’s not like it’s in my living room.
I have set the fan on continous to help dry out the ducts.
