Homepage Hijacked buy huy-search!

I came home from vacation this week, loaded up my comp, and opened internet explorer to find my homepage had changed to http://www.huy-search.info/1/. Needless to say, this is not what it was before. I changed the homepage under options and everything seemed fine. Unfortunately when I rebooted the comp it went back to huy-search! Next, I ran spybot and adaware. Spybot found a bunch of registry changes so I deleted them and all seemed well…until I rebooted!

It seems like nothing I do will get rid of this page and get it to surrender my browser back. Does anyone have any experience with this problem a problem like this one? Any help would be much appreciated.

Download the apps in my sig.

All the computers at my work seem to be infected recently. we’ve got bogus search pages and random popups. can’t install adaware and spybot becauce I don’t have admin permissions.

shit. You already tried. damn I look a fool.
Have you updated adaware and spybot recently?

This is supposed to allow you to remove it.

Hijack This

You could try downloading and installing X-Setup. This has a lot of fancy tweaks you probably don’t need (though I like 'em), but it does have a handy little setting which allows you to lock or unlock your homepage. You can also follow the instructions found here.

Huy-search is CoolWebSearch affiliate, download CWShredder, it should remove all of it. If CWShredder closes immediately after opening it, you need to download and run CoolWWWSearch.SmartKiller removal tool and run it first.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I downloaded the app. suggested by Fear Itself and ran it. It apears to have taken care of the problem. Hopefully it wont resurface.

That thing is horrible.

Thanks!

Isn’t it a sign of shit times where you have to download a thing to get rid of another thing that gets rid of a thing that gets rid of a thing you don’t want in the first place.
Are these advertising slime trying to force us to either commit suicide or go and live in the woods eating berries and the occasional small animal?

I think that that’s certainly part of the grand plan that they have in store for us. :frowning:

It is definitely an arms race that seems to escalate on a daily basis. CWShredder is a stop gap measure until Adaware and Spybot S&D can incorporate the latest CWS variants. The guy that writes CWShredder is focused on CWS, so he can respond quicker. Eventually, the others get updated to deal with the newer CWS stuff. But there is no question that spyware is shaping up to be as big a problem (or bigger) than viruses.

Nope, they are just trying to make money. Lots of it. So far, it’s working.
