Homesick

I miss spring. A real spring with green shoots pushing up through the still-cold ground. I miss the smell of spring, and the days when it’s still chilly, but sunny enough that you can take your jacket off.

I miss thunderstorms. The things they call storms in LA are pathetic.

I miss being able to hear crickets and see stars at night.

I miss Air Farce and 22 Minutes. I miss CBC Radio.

I miss President’s Choice tofu. I miss their Triple-Chocolate cookies, All-In-One cookies, and Key Lime Temptations even more.

I miss being able to breathe.

Suo Na,

Lessee if I can help you here… do you miss income taxes? GST? Having to visit a liquor store to pick up a lousy bottle of wine?

Sorry, that’s all I can come up with. (How 'bout a hug from Ontario?)

And a hug from Alberta. What are you doing down there?

Portwest,

What you described, income taxes and wine at a liquor…that’s Colorado too.

Portwest:

Sales tax, income tax, and only being able to get wine at a liquor store? If you added in the fact that you can’t even get liquor on Sundays for the better part of the year, you’d have a pretty good description of Massachusetts.

Now look here, guys… is this helpful?!? Sheesh, now poor Suo Na is not only gonna be homesick for Eastern Canada, but for Colorado and Massachusettes, too!

Not to bump my own thread, but…

Portwest: Actually, I do miss the LCBO, in a funny kind of way. For one thing, the selection of wine is much better than here at the grocery store. Maybe I just miss Niagara wine. Oh, and Waterloo Dark beer.

And I do have to pay income tax, you know, in both countries this year.

CanadianSue: My husband is doing a PhD at Caltech. I followed him here. Luckily it’s only for another two years.

I am homesick for Massachusetts. I might actually get to visit there in May. Haven’t been there since I was 12.

Colorado? I once spent three hours in Denver airport. Does that count?

Ah well, it was 95 degrees (and what a pain it is to use that godforsaken system!) here yesterday.
