In general, I think baiting someone into violating a ban should be subject to moderation. Because you are effectively an accessory to that rules violation. I swear I’ve seen notes asking people not to do that but I can’t remember enough details of the incident enough to even start a search.
It’s not even so much about “fairness” as it is that doing so is instigating the kind of disruption that the ban is intended to prevent. If such a thing isn’t against the rules it really should be. It’s almost a light form of trolling in its own right.
If you go back and check your thread I wasn’t the one that derailed it. I was all for talking about a climate corps because I really believe in it strongly. Another poster jumped on me about my climate views which are not climate denial. I apologize for responding to him. I should have just let it go. This is the biggest topic of my lifetime, and it is being treated like a house on fire. There is simply no way to talk about it.
People here are adults and are responsible for their own posts. ‘He made me do it’ never flies. My first warning here was me saying ‘fuck you’ to outright targeted racebaiting by Shodan. And I had to suck it up. Because I posted what I did myself, not him. So it goes for all of us.
That baiting people is not always tolerated on the board. In most cases it is, but in others it hasn’t been. As I said, it can resemble trolling. I don’t see how it’s helpful to the board to shrug and say “suck it up”.
That’s been the case for a lot of things on the board that are no longer tolerated, and it made the board better. Like, for example…
I’m failing to see why prodding someone into violating a ban is good.
Isn’t the whole point of a topic ban, as opposed to a full ban, that you’re trying to stop the behavior? So why is it good for someone to deliberately incite that behavior? It makes no sense.
Nobody prodded Shodan to make misogynistic comments. He threw a misogynistic comment into a Hillary Clinton rant that could have just avoided mentioning her gender.
I never complained about it at the time, but the fact is that Someone else shitted on the thread, I responded to it but only I was punished for thread shitting. I had no ban at that time.
And somehow, people think this is a feature, not a bug.
It used to be the rule that you cant shit on banned posters. It’s okay to mention how and why they were banned, but it used to be that insulting them was off limits. Isnt that still the rule?
