Somewhere it must be someone’s birthday? Is that what you are trying to remember?
No, silly; it’s Culture Day Eve in Japan!
I thought Halloween (all hallows eve) was the eve of all souls day, making Nov. 1 the day itself?
I think that November 1 is All Saint’s Day, and November 2 is All Soul’s Day.
Clearly, the OP has forgotten about the Melborne Cup horse race in Australia, widely known as “the race that stops the nation”.
You must be thinking of “Day of the Dead” in Mexico.
No you silly fools! The NBA season starts today!!! WhooHooo!
More importantly it’s only three days to Guy Fawkes Day. I know I see no reason for gunpowder treason to ever be forgot.
57 years ago, the Spruce Goose flew.
9 years ago, Daiwa blew.
12 years ago, Hal Roach died.
91 years ago, Lancaster cried.
84 years ago, KDKA broadcasted.
56 years ago, Truman outlasted.

A fine parody of an All Saints Day hymn.
Our very own Olentzero and Harborwolf.
It’s Marie Antoinette’s birthday today, too.
And on this day in 1960, the Lady Chattersley’s Lover obscenity trial ended. Apparently, the gamekeeper did it. Several times.
Today is my first full day with a newly-repaired bathtub tap. Now it doesn’t leak hot water into the tub when I close the diverter to take a shower! The plumber was here for four hours yesterday, thumping and banging and carving holes in the wall and brazing pipes and assembling things… they found a forgotten toilet cubicle off the laundry room, to which my water supply pipes were connected. Gotta love these older buildings!
Oh, and there was something on the news about some big kerfuffle in one of the republics down south, but I didn’t catch the details because they cut over to coverage of the GTA Minor Hockey scandal.
for 20 minutes…
Today is my wife’s birthday. Also the anniversary of the first regular high definition TV broadcasts in the world by the BBC in 1936 and the first edition of the Daily Mirror in 1903. George Bernard Shaw died this day in 1950 , and it is also the birth date of Warren G Harding , the 29th US president.
Basketball! Basketball! How can you people be talking about dusty old history when basketball is on tonight??? Yay! My VCR is set and I can only hope my evil boss manages to keep the evening bug meeting to less then 2 hours.
We celebrated All Souls’ Day last night by singing the Victoria *Requiem * at Mass and then singing the Office of the Dead. Very moving.
Because it moves too damned fast. Look away for ten minutes and you miss two dozen baskets!
Dude! That’s the best part! (other than fit young men in shorts! Lawd, Lawd, please bring back the shorts of the 1970s!). The Pistons game was excellent or at least the first half! I’m taping, not watching the Lakers(boo, hiss!)/Nuggets (Yay!) game so I can watch it with the Devil’s Granfather later.
