(Hoping to be well meaning) SUV rant.

There should be special gas pumps for SUV’s. And these pumps would charge $10. per gallon.

Define “people like you”. I’ll give it a shot:

“Pansy-ass tree-hugging hippie liberal do-gooder commie who knows what’s better for everybody else than they do themselves and thinks we should legislate away all personal responsibility.”

Have you considered the possibility that you just NOTICE the imbiciles who happen to drive SUVs because of that huge fucking chip on your shoulder?

Well meaning, indeed. Fuck you and your fucking physics.

Actually, I’ve never even felt like going out on a casual date with physics, never mind getting intimate.

And it’s nimrods who are fixated on one type of vehicle and are hyper-attentive to the minute details of how they are driven, to the exclusion of all the other dopes on the road.
Not to mention imbeciles who don’t know how to spell “imbecile”.

Is there any evidence that SUV drivers are more likely to be at fault in an accident?

Hey ** wolfman **, I also live in the Denver area and I’m absolutely amazed at the vast majority of people who don’t know how to drive any type of vehicle in the snow.

My household has 2 vehicles, a 4 door sedan type & an SUV for the wife. When we get more than a few inches on the ground, I drive the SUV. Now granted it’s a smaller SUV (Mazda Tribute) so suffers less from the physics issues you pointed out, but that thing is a dream to drive in the snow. It goes, stops & turns much better than our sedan.

The reasoning of which would be?

The thing that really burns me about this issue is that the car companies are more than happy to promote the idea that 4WD = perfect handling in snow.

Jaguar has one with one of their 4WD cars out in unplowed, unsalted roads (they’re in front of the scared plow driver) tooling along like it’s a fresh spring day. SUV ads have the things plowing through giant snow drifts, or just have every owner acting like that blizzard shouldn’t stop them from driving across the state.

I’m just waiting for someone to sue them after sliding off into a ditch doing what was on the screen.

What, you didn’t know? Aside from the fact that an SUV driver pays more for their vehicle and gets (in some cases) very poor gas mileage, he should be penalized even further for having the unmitigated gall to purchase a vehicle that county doesn’t like.

Apparently county has made the determination that he will be the arbiter of other people’s good judgment and will mete out punishment accordingly.

But didn’t you see the fine print, (in size 2 font, grey on white) that said “professional driver, closed course”? So they’re protected, you know, because they’ve *warned us *not to do this.

Oh, but they DON’T! They’ll say that when some guy is driving up the roof of a house, or down the side of a skyscraper, or driving down a windy road  , but they don’t put that warning in when they’re driving through a blizzard to bring their kids to school.

You see, a disclamer would make it sound like the car isn’t ultra-safe in snow, which is the idiotic proposition they’re pushing. I wouldn’t be nearly as irritated by it if they put up a disclamer.

Well, dude, there’s your problem. You’re not supposed to engage in “fucking physics” while DRIVING. Ya do that sort of thing while the vehicle’s PARKED and then you won’t be aiming your car of whatever size it may be off the road. I mean, geez, your mind isn’t actually on the whole “driving thing” at that point, is it?

Can I inquire?

If there are “X” amount of fossil fuels in the world to be burned, how can SUV’s create more total pollution in total, or more waste? When all is said and done, whether it’s 4.3 billion Toyotas burning all those fossil fuels (X), or 1.7 billion SUVs, in the end “X” amount of fossil fuel was burned.

You could make the argument that using fewer vehicles to burn the fossil fuels is more efficient. Less rubber, metal/alloys, plastics, vinyl, leathers, refrigerants, lubricants, antifreeze and all that to churn throught the fossil fuels supply.

It’s not so much that SUV drivers want bigger pricks, it’s more like SUV drivers are bigger pricks.* Take a case in point:

Wow. “I hope you suffer dire consequences.” Like death and shit, right? Hey, listen, I’m glad that you and yours weren’t hurt, but must you take so much delight in the suffering of others? Like little tree-hugging weenies that can’t afford a man’s car? Somehow it seems like you feel you deserve to “win” in an accident because you own the bigger vehicle. Had you been in a sedan, and the drunk was in an SUV, would you feel that he deserved to “win”?

*No, not all SUV drivers are pricks. And many sedan drivers are. There are many SUV drivers that are responsible and safe. And many sedan drivers that are a mencae to society. But attitudes like those expressed above really steam me, and when pricks like that end up behind the wheel of a heavy and unmaneuverable vehicle, I cringe.

Not all women but with them I think it’s the intimidation.

Quite true but pricks in SUVs more noticable.

I disagree. I’ve found that the prick closest to me is more noticeable, regardless of what he’s driving.

I was being facetious. You know, SUV = big attention getter?

Hmmmm. I dunno. I drive an SUV and I have a pretty big penis. A fourteen inch, big, black penis. I keep it in my sock drawer, though. Perhaps I should start keeping it in my glove compartment.

I also have a luxury sedan. Should I get another big, black penis to keep in that glove compartment, too?

I make no apologies. I’ve seen enough families get wiped out by some asshole who was drinking and driving or running a red light. If you’re a stupid fuck who drinks and drives or violates traffic codes which results in a wreck, I hope the person you hit “wins”. If it comes down to the stupid fuck or some innocent family, I’m all for the stupid fuck dying.

I said “If you run a red light because you’re running late and plow into someone, I hope they are driving an SUV and you suffer dire consequences for being a fucking idiot.” Now, if that pisses you off or “steams you” well too fucking bad for you. Go to the ER of a local hospital and watch people being told that their family members have been killed. I’ve seen it more than once while working at a hospital and it goddamn sure isn’t going to happen to mine.

That’s pretty presumptious of you to speak for me, you ass.

The reason, IMO, that SUV drivers should pay more for gas is because of their conspicuous consumption of a limited natural resource. Also, because of their proportionally larger contribution to air pollution problems.

Me, I live in a city and I see those huge SUV’s with a single occupant every day.

I think taxing those people more for their gasoline is a good idea. And, you ass, that is not “meting out punishment” nor am I the “arbiter” of people judgement.

And, inconclusion, if you want to; bite me.

Um, county, oil consumption is a zero sum game. When it’s gone, it’s gone. So perhaps you can explain to me how an SUV contributes more pollution to a total amount that’s basically fixed?

Oh, and “bite me”? I thought someone of authority had said something to you about that.
