Horace (Lightnin') Stewart, RIP

The last surviving regular cast member of TV program “Amos ‘n’ Andy” is gone. He was also the voice of Br’er Bear in “Song of the South.”

Y’know, that’s a damn shame. I know that “Amos 'n Andy” is often derided for showing blacks as buffoons, but it was a revolutionary show. True, the show did show a terrible stereotype of black people, but it was one of the first shows that had black main characters. Some may say that we still have a long way to go as far as blacks (and all minorities for that matter) on television, but without actors like Mr. Stewart pioneering the way, we may not have made it as far as we have.

God rest your soul Mr. Stewart.
