Maybe not gunpoint but social pressure effectively forcing a passionless political marriage within a social stratum. A tired premise usually imposed on the woman, but it’s a ‘for instance’.
There’s a dozen scenarios that make the comment anything from creepy to sweet. Although admittedly for it to be ‘sweet’ she’d almost have to be granting an allowance for some social awkwardness that afflicts him (which could also account for his becoming married to the mother).
In the next chapter, Dwight shows Deborah the shrine of all the photos he has surreptitiously taken of her all through the years, surrounded by candles and bits of litter that she once handled and discarded. He also shows her the trophies that he took from all those who wronged her over the years, and met an untimely fate.
Deborah weeps with joy at how much Dwight loves her.
Interesting. I was surprised that a woman would write it and then have a woman character respond very positively to it. Because it was so not something I would respond positively to!
Given that a female author wrote Twilight, I am under no illusions that there is anything that some woman somewhere doesn’t think of as sexy. Especially unhealthy obsession from a man.
Oh, and regarding the OP, I’m with CookingWithGas - ‘So who are you fantasizing about now?’ Clearly the dude’s vows are worthless, after all…
Something about a more powerful being finding you worthy of undivided attention suggests you are a truly remarkable being, possibly unable to conceive of your own worth and potential as a being. I didn’t read 50 shades (but saw all three movies for the geo-porn, I miss PacNW)–is it a stretch to apply that to Anna as well?
Given that 50 Shades is literally Twilight fanfiction, I’d say that drawing parallels between Bella and her alt Ana is fair game. Not that I’ve read either one, or seen any of the fanfiction’s movies - I have taste. Not too much taste though, because I’ve seen all five Twilight movies and didn’t murder myself, as taste would require.
