Horse-drawn double decker carriages

When I first watched Youtube clipsof early 20th century London street scenes one of the things that struck me was the profusion of double-decker carriages drawn by horses. My visual sense of that period comes mostly from period movies and TV shows and I didn’t really recall seeing them before. Then some time later I watched the openingof the Brett Sherlock Holmes series and there they were! I had seen that opening many times but had never really noticed the double-deckers.

Still, am I right in general that double-deckers aren’t common in period shows and movies, perhaps because of the expense? Certainly I can’t recall seeing them in the kind of number you see in that first clip. Lots of ads as well, incidentally including Kodak and Nestle’s. A fun product placement idea perhaps for some show or movie.

A bit of googling revealsyou can actually do tours in horse drawn double-deckers. Looks quite fun; has anyone been one of these?
