Horse owners in south central Indiana, be vigilant with your Coggins test!

I received an email today from a horse rescue in northern Indiana regarding confirmed cases of equine infectious anemia in Jackson County. Since you certainly can’t believe everything that you read online, I personally called the Board of Animal Health to confirm.

Just a heads-up and a reminder to stay current on all of those important tests.

Since we don’t vaccinate for EIA, testing your horse may well be his death sentence. Otherwise, the state won’t know if he is infected. I have heard (from a vet) of entire herds in south Florida that are infected but just not tested.

OTOH, I always fret until my tests come back negative (I test once a year).
