After the innocents had already evacuated?
From the video it seems the hostages left about 15 seconds ahead of the gunshots. Given that the hostage taker was last seen waving a gun at the fleeing hostages, I suspect he was still waving it around when the synagogue was stormed. And those storming may well not have known that the hostages just popped out the back door.
I’ve never been in any similar situation, but working where I do, I’ve had training at being a hostage (gee, that was fun) and recall being told that things tend to get very chaotic/random/violent before things calm down.
Well, I was talking about shooting the terrorist to terminate brain function being standard tactics if you do go in. Because obviously the team taking him down are at risk too.
I’m not sure why they decided to go into the building at that point. It seemed to happen very soon after the hostages ran out - perhaps they realized things were going south (as the rabbi said) in the last hour, and they had already decided to storm the building before the hostages took matters into their own hands and proactively escaped.
I live 2 blocks from the Colleyville border, and just a few miles from the synagogue. I’ve passed many times but only because it connects one major road with another. IOW, it’s not near anything but suburbs.
What gets me about this is - why Colleyville?
Allegedly, the closest Synagogue to where his object of desire is being held (the one he wanted released):
No. I just think we don’t have the full story yet, which is probably normal at this stage.
I am not at all on expert on this, but I’m relatively sure there’s some sort of rapid response team nearby at all times in situations like this so that they can storm the building if shit goes south. Well, shit went south, so they stormed the building (it looks like to me).
Good news, everyone!

So in it was apparently a “private sale” by a convicted felon — it was illegal for the seller to acquire it to begin with it. So the chain doesn’t necessarily stop there.
