Why did I do it? Simple. One thing that always (and I do mean always) sets me off is people who absolutely refuse to learn something. Willful ignorance is something that I just can’t stand. Much worse than people who don’t know something because they’ve never been exposed to it, and especially worse than people who (for whatever reason) are unable to comprehend new information.
Generally, I’m a pretty tolerant guy, but this is my biggest and hairiest trigger.
I know we’ve had a “What pisses you off” thread before. What I’m asking is “What is it that makes you respond rashly the quickest?”
Mr. K’s Link of the Month:
What is John Kricfalusi (“Ren and Stimpy”) doing these days?
With me, when people criticize others beliefs. Oh, that pisses me off.
ie) A friend of mine had re-made his webpage and when I went to see it, I was instantly disgusted. He had a section that he called, “Christians Suck.” I simply stated that it was mean and that there is no reason to condemn a person for what they believe in. He went on with how they are ignorant and it’s a religion for only ‘the mildly retarded and severly lost.’
Okay, now who’s to say that the reason he can’t believe is because HE’S missing something? I really think that it takes a certain capacity to believe, a certain will. There are plenty of things I believe in that others don’t, but then there are lots of things that I don’t believe in, that others do.
I know this makes me sound like a bit of a hypocrit, but since he didn’t stand by it and took the page down, I’ll have to disagree.
Also, I don’t mean that all beliefs should be respected, because a belief such as ‘slaughtering little boys is good’ obviously shouldn’t. There is a difference, but it’s an easy one to distinguish.
“If anybody wants a sheep, that is proof that he exists.”
I don’t see how the thread referenced displays an unwillingness to learn. In fact, I agree with much of it. I agree that 0-100F better represents the extremes in comfort, with 50 being halfway between hot and cold, etc.

Instant trigger:
People on here and IRL who talk about “perfectly healthy people using the handicapped spaces”. This has been done a hundred times here, but suffice to say I am sufficiantly handicapped to have a handicapped permit and use the spaces.
Fortunately, I’m lucky enough to look healthy. Many people believe I should have a cane or wheelchair to have “permission” to use them. INSTANT TRIGGER

PS- I have yet to understand what psychic powers they are using to determine my health. It must be a very handy skill to have. Try walking a mile in MY shoes for a damned day, then we’ll talk about it.

Yeah, Opal, after I cooled off (and read some follow-up posts that indicated that a lot of people agreed with him) I realized that “willful ignorance” might be a little harsh. In fact, I did go back and withdrew my “troll” remark.
I guess that’s what I mean by “rashly” in my OP here. Sometimes I’m too quick to berate someone just because I perceive them as being willfully ignorant.
He also opened a new thread with the same OP in GQ. Interesting note: While the thread in GD seems to favor his view, the one in GQ leans pro-Celsius. Make of it what you will.
I noticed both facts too.
It first I thought it was some king of board glitz. But it appears entirely separate groups of people joined in the argument. (except I entered both thread.)
Well currently my button is a certain former “Heisman trophy winner” who has entered several threads (the first being one with an OP made by another that made no sense to begin with) and simply pissed on them.
Now I don’t mind an occasional drive-by posting (and I engage in several of them), but all he does is simply post something stupid, obviously to annoy the regulars. Up to now I’ve ignored the bugger but I really want to slap him upside the head.
Tell a man that there are 400 billion stars and he’ll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint and he has to touch it.
But isn’t that the fundemental means by which this board exists? To help get rid of ignorance?
The post you linked to was basically something not worthy of your time(or mine when I actually read the damn thing that I have avoided because the topic seemed not worthy of looking at for me.) Somethings are better left unresponded and then go to something that makes more sense to you.
There are things more worthy of you time, so screw those posts and get on to things that mean something worthy of discussion to you.
No offense, but really is it worth the effort to label someone as a troll when clearly the topic is a mute point? Granted it is fun to point out the stupidity by which some people post. I am sure some think I am weird and insane while others think I might actually have something worthwhile to say.
Sheesh, it’s 3:15 and I have to go into work tomorrow…er today…oh man, this sucks!
