hot/warm water

Why is it hazy? I was warming my son’s bath tonight . The water was perfectly clear (well, not perfectly, but you know) and as I added warm water it got all clouded.

WHY? I’ve wondered this for years.

Thanks.

The haziness is due to tiny air bubbles. The ability of a liquid to retain dissolved gasses is inversely proportional to its temperature. Adding hot water to cooler water causes some of the gases to come out of solution, hence the haziness.

In general, there are gasses dissolved in our water. However, all gas is less soluable at increased temps. Also, add to this the fact that, when moving through the pipes, the motion agitates the gas encouraging it to settle out (as bubbles) of the water. So, the cloudy nature of the water you’re witnessing is the gas escaping from the water as millions of tiny bubbles… - Jinx
