Hot Water

I’m told that drinking hot water is a healthy aid to weight loss and has other benefits too.
Is this true or simply an ‘old wives tale’?
If true, what are the benefits?
If not true, can drinking hot water cause any damage or ill-effect to the body?
Are there any maximum or minimum consumption guidelines?

How hot is hot?

Incidently, I’ve always heard that drinking ice water prior to meal consumptions is the best way to lose weight.

Drinking hot water, drinking cold water, drinking tepid water, drinking lukewarm water, drinking carbonated water, and drinking uncarbonated water have all been shown to enhance weight loss.
