I usually have to cover all the lights from the alarm clock to the blinking smoke detectors.
Yeah. I unplug the tv and anything else with a bright LED. I have also unplugged the fridge it if was too noisy.
I need to start travelling with a roll of black electrical tape. Sometimes the lights in the room are too bright for me to sleep. I am a delicate flower and I need my beauty sleep goddammit!
I never thought to just leave the Do not Disturb sign up all the time until I was working nights one week. Now i always leave it up. I feel kind of scolded when I get the We couldn’t clean your room card one hotel leaves me, but not enough to not leave the sign up. I’ll have to rig something up to tell if they’ve actually checked in my room the next time I do this, though.

Yeah. Even for pretty good kids, that’s so asking for trouble leaving a pile of goodies in reach. I don’t know if they’ll take it away if you ask or if they have rooms without.
Under that circumstance, I’ll agree–until the next morning when you look at the empty bottles and ask, “What have I done?” Then, you care about the markup.

We’d only had the room maybe 12 hrs (possibly less, definitely no longer) when this happened.
The sign won’t but the lock that only opens on the inside will. Like I said, I was in there, trying to sleep, not trying to keep them out the entire stay, just that day. The next day we went to see the sights and didn’t put the sign up. It’s not that we didn’t want anyone in the room ever, it’s that at that time I did not want to be disturbed, silly, I know.
I put up the Do Not Disturb sign yesterday. Housekeeping knocked on my door 3 times!?

As a former hotel manager, those signs are there so when you call corporate to say that there was no signs that said that you couldn’t or shouldn’t do that thing you did, we can say that sign said that thing said don’t do that thing, please.

If they knocked on my door more than once, especially with the Do Not Disturb sign posted for them, I would get up and answer the door, and give them an earful. Then I would call the front desk and demand a manager, and give him an earful.
