House fly can fly inverted with ease.

Hi,
just letting you know of a factual event of several yrs back when I was about 50.
It was mid morning on a Saturday in summer here in NZ and in the kitchen above the table was a light hanging quite low. House flies like doing that eratic zig zag flying underneath objects such as that. The sun was streaming into the room & I was watching the fly zig zaging in the sunshine less than a metre away from me, when suddenly it went upside down & did 5 or 6 zig zags before righting itself into the usual flying position.
I had a young surfing friend in the kitchen, visiting us at the time, enjoying a coffee & I looked at him & said “Did you just see that!!” to which he smiled & immediately said “Yeah, it was flying upside down!”
And so it was.
Giro.

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Boards, Giro, we’re glad you found us. For future ref, when you start a thread, it’s helpful to other readers if you provide a link to the column you’re commenting on. I’m not sure if you’re actually commenting on a column, or just sharing an anecdote, but (assuming the former) here’s a link to what is probably the column in question: How does a fly land upside down on the ceiling? - The Straight Dope

No biggie, you’ll know for next time, and, as I say, welcome!

I second the, Welcome to the ‘Dope’!
FWIW, you’re not the only ‘Kiwi’ on the boards.

Isn’t there some fuss about a Kiwi with a chip on his shoulder on one of the boards now? He called Americans “niggers” because we didn’t know enough stuff about N.Z.

I think he ‘wore out his welcome’, and rather quickly, too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Come on, it’s New Zealand. Everything is upside down there.
