A 40-year-old widow and beauty-shop owner in Sleman, Indonesia is offering to sell her house for the equivalent of US$75,000. And as a sweetener, you can marry her too.
Sleman is near Yogyakarta (those Ys are pronounced as Js) in central Java. I’ve spent time in Yogyakarta, which was Suharto’s hometown, and it’s really a nice area. I already have a wife, but of course in Thailand that’s never a problem.
Wow, what a deal. In the video, is she telling us the specifics of the place or of her? What’s the acreage (hectarage?) I’m not fluent in my Indonesian (I’ve got selamat pagi and terima kasih down, though)… does she say what she does for a living? Is she going to support me or do I have to buy the place and her & her son’s clothes, too?
I love Indonesia (travel there often) and I had a similar offer once. I didn’t even have to buy the house because she already had one. She was/is a beautiful & relatively powerful business woman in Jakarta, so this was a sweet proposition on many levels. It was a tough decision, really. It came with a few stipulations and one was that I had to become Muslim. The other was that I had to move to Jakarta. The third was I had to get married, ha! But seriously, I took some time to learn about Islam and learned a lot about Indonesian culture from the experience. Even got to visit Borobadur with her. It’s an ancient Buddhist temple outside of Yogya is why i bring it up. That, and it was truly one of the most memorable weekends I’ve had.
Well, I couldn’t do it. Ultimately, i was scared to leave the US and my friends/family. Also, though they (her family) are progressive Muslims and it’s not like Islam would be a big cramp in my style or anything, i just couldn’t live a lie of faith while being surrounded by the church like they are. Especially seeing how important the church is to their lives. But I digress as I profess a love for Indonesia and the Indonesian people. Thanks for helping me remember & giving me the (hijacked) opportunity to share my story, though.
But I really am wondering about what she’s telling us. I could ask my Indonesian friends, but does anyone know?
p.s. Siam Sam, you (sorta) ninja’ed me while I was typing and I’ll bet she’s explaining the story in that video. I see she owns a “salon”, though.
I love how the Internet buys into this crap. Because there’s no way this could be a clever strategy to get people around the world talking about both her house and her beauty salon.
Nope, the news article even confirms it - she wanted to keep this one quiet.
Hey now, you’re talking about the woman I’m going to marry, so go easy, OK?
Oh, wait, does she happen to say how she became a widow? It wasn’t anything like her husband accidentally hitting himself in the head several times with a hammer while he was asleep, right?
