I just saw the first preview for this last night and I’m so excited…I like Hugh Laurie and can’t wait to see this show. Unfortunately I have to go to a meeting so I’ll be taping it.
Is anyone else looking forward to this?

Well cover me in egg and flour and bake me for 14 minutes! (George)
I hope it lives up to the hype.
I want to see it, but I also want to see Scrubs! I love Scrubs! It’s at 9:30, and House, an hour long, starts at 9. Damn you Fox and NBC! Maybe House will get good ratings and have another viewing.
I need to get a TiVo. Or at least a VCR.
I’ll be watching the show, but this may be the most hyped show I remember. How many commericals can there be for the premiere? It seems like it should have happened weeks ago… because that is how long it has been going with the commericals.
TiVo = Awsome! You can record two channels at once. So tonight I’m watching House and recording Nova. And I can get my beauty sleep and watch the Daily Show, Adult Swim, Real Sex semi-porno from HBO all the next day.
Not bad. Not bad at all. I enjoyed the show. The character of House is great (and Laurie played it very well). Too many shows either have the protagonist being a goodie-goodie or a total ass who no one could like. House actually has the protagonist be an ass, but a likable one, which isn’t all that easy to pull off.
Okay, it’s official – this is my new favorite show. I especially liked the voyage into her nose and to the brain. Very CSI-like.
How funny…I missed all the hype for it and only saw the one promo, and I still was excited to watch it!
I caught the last 10 minutes, and liked what I saw, so I will rewind the tape tomorrow…well, maybe Saturday…and watch the rest.
I thought that was a bit too CSI-esque.
But the show itself was, IMHO, better than I thought it would be, and I had high expectations for it. Here’s hoping that it doesn’t fall into the “early death” trap, nor the “well, we now have a bunch of Christian Scientists writing for it.”
So, all in all, Hugh Laurie’s great in this role. I almost want to go back and finish college, go to med school, and become a doctor just so I can call patients morons and idiots.
LOLOL!
–
Here is hoping, though, that the insane ads for it allow for a large Nielsen rating, so Fox doesn’t decide to cancel it after a season, as they are apt to do.
ARGH! My stupid brain fell asleep! Bad brain! No napping!
Missed the whole show.
Woof!
I can’t wait for this to air. I don’t channel-surf at all, so I managed to remain completely unaware of the show until I read this thread.
The only reason I don’t worship Hugh Laurie as a god is because he’s spent most of his career standing next to Stephen Fry, who makes him seem a bit middling by comparison.
Hugh Laurie in the title role of a new Fox series? Is it the End Times, or something?
tingles with anticipation
I’m not familiar with Hugh Laurie. Could somebody clue me in?
I missed the promotions, too. I only watched it because I had watched Batshit Crazy Billionaire the hour before. I did like it, however. It made me laugh out loud a few times, which is very rare for a TV show. But more importantly, I liked the emphasis on medical diagnosis. It’s an interest of mine. (I love the “Diagnosis” column in the New York Times magazine.) I hope the show focuses on diagnosis of weird illnesses. That would be cool.
Plus, it takes place in Jersey, yo!
The only think I know about Laurie is that he was in Blackadder, and that makes him good enough for me :D.
I did hear ‘Trenton’ and realized it was in Jersey, but did anyone catch whereabouts?
If you watched a single inning of the baseball playoffs or World Series, you would have seen an ad for this show. Several of them. Dozens of them.
I’m sure that a good number of people in Boston say in their sleep,
“You’re risking a patient’s life!”
His highest-profile role (I think) was as Bertie Wooster in the TV series based on P.G. Wodehouse’s Jeeves & Wooster books.
He’s a freaking hilarious comic actor, and has done a lot of work with Stephen Fry. (A Bit of Fry & Laurie is exemplary stuff.) You’ll probably recognize him if you’re a fan of Blackadder, he made a guest appearance in each series.
He’s a decent enough dramatic actor.
It’ll be interesting to see how he comes off with this. I love his lampoons of American accents – I don’t think I’ve ever heard him play an American in a straight role, though. Should be interesting.
previews
That’ll teach me to answer the phone.
Ha. That was the best medical drama I’ve seen in a while.
And I liked Laurie’s characterization of House a lot.
Lovable bastard.
I watched because I love Robin Tunney, in particular the movie Cherish. I liked how they opened the episode with a tribute to Cherish; the race to get back to house arrest is one of my favorite sequences ever. (The white shirt had nothing to do with it, I swear!)
But when 9:30 rolled around, I was all about Scrubs, though I kept up to speed on House during commercials. A truly unfortunate time slot, as I only watch Scrubs on Tuesdays. Couldn’t they have picked 8:00 or 10:00 for House? It had better not syphon off Scrubs ratings, or there will be hell to pay.
Overall, I was annoyed at the sanctimonious first half hour, but I see much potential. I’ll stick with it a couple more episodes.
Great episode – I bet I would have liked it even more if the network hadn’t gone ahead and broadcast one of those long-form promos a few weeks ago where they REVEALED THE FINAL DIAGNOSIS! Weren’t the people who edited the promo born with a brain in their heads? Save that for the actual episode, jerks!
I was impressed by how many I-can’t-believe-he-said-THAT laughs I got from the episode. And there was a tantalizing darkness as House asked the female doctor about how she might be “damaged.” It’s probably for the best that we found out now what happened to his leg, instead of building it up for a Very Special Episode; VSEs don’t really fit well with House’s personality.
Seeing Lisa Edelstein just makes me think about the late, great “Sports Night.”
The person who did her sex change operation is a genius.
I thought that going on about how pretty the girl doctor was, was a little much. She’s good looking, but not gorgeous.
