He already tried that by endorsing McCarthy after the first day of this nonsense. It had zero impact on the second day.
He told everyone to support Kevin yesterday morning. They didn’t.
Yep. Boebert confirmed that she got a call from Trump, and then she said he needs to tell McCarthy to step down instead.
I agree that he hasn’t or won’t spank Gaetz. But that’s a different question then whether he could.
I hadn’t heard that. That’s really interesting. I thought perhaps Trump was playing both sides a bit.
democrats have no one with which to govern. when they had the majority (same number of votes) they governed, moved legislation, did what needed done.
the republicans have a largish group that does not want to govern and burn it down. they can not elect a speaker, they barely can get a vote to adjourn.
Yep.
Yeah, it was lovely to see that Ms Boebert is calling the shots now, rebuking TFG, and that TFG’s puffery about his presumptive party leadership role has all but melted away.
Democrats are voting in unison for their guy. They’re all good.
Sometimes the adult thing is to confiscate someone’s car keys.
Sometimes the adult thing is to let people realize they need help before helping them.
(and another thing: ##SMACK## Look what you made me do! – your post is gaslighting the issue, their majority, their circus, definitely their monkeys.)
I just thought of something. Kevin McCarthy has made several concessions to the far right that hasn’t amounted to a lot of support. Is he bound to follow these concessions when he is elected Speaker or could he just “conveniently” forget and fulfill his duties as he sees fit?
The GOP is currently arguing over who gets to lead two years of retaliatory committee investigations and vindictive gridlock.
But sure, the Dems are childish because they have no interest in hurrying the process along.
No, but it would iron-clad guarantee that he will never get a unanimous vote from the current congress.
Quote from McCarthy: “We will come to a solution otherwise we won’t be successful”
Genius.
Alternately, it shows that the House Republican caucus has become ungovernable.
Quick poll. Winner gets bragging rights.
Who will nominate McCarthy, Jeffries, Donalds?
Sometimes letting something break fully is the best way to fix it properly and more fully.
From NY Times live coverage:
Representative Bob Good of Virginia, one of the rebels, sums up the challenge facing McCarthy: “You don’t ever have to ask me again if I’m a no. I will never vote for Kevin McCarthy.”
whoa, interview on cnn rep buck states the 20 are one block and will not break apart.
Why would they? They’re not interested in governing. They’re interested in getting their way/publicity/$.
buck says they may not have a speaker by the end of the day, but kevin is done today if he can not get the vote.
who had john james?
