He’d need hardliner votes (or abstention) to pass that, though. The Dems won’t give it to him.
The maths for today is possible 216 for the win.
McCarthy can only lose 3 for an outright win. McCarthy is picking up the ones who are not in the never Kevin camp. This vote will give a good idea of who is the never Kevin crew.
Picking up most of the rebels now, “pending good faith negotiations” as one put it.
He’s not wrong…
Which really gets us back to where those of us who expected a loggerheads were thinking it would be: five true Nevers who have no incentive to be a not never ever.
But “progress” and “trend” will prolong the process, delaying their achieving the goal of getting McCarthy to step down.
Ah. That’s your definition of “extremists dictating policy.” Thanks for the clarification.
I see the “Kevin…Hern” joke hasn’t gotten stale for some.
Reporting is hern is in the building. That changes the math a bit. McCarthy still loses this round.
They just “got it” Not fast on the uptake…
Not this time.
Down to seven hold outs. That’s actually much better than I thought McCarthy would do. Several of the crossovers look disgusted with their capitulation, though. Will they hold fast?
McCarthy picked up 12 votes.
I would not bet on it. Some clarified as pending.
The winning number if all are in the chamber is 217.
This is basically how party leadership conventions work in Canada. This prevents the votes from simply repeating themselves over and over and over again. So that an actual decision is finally made.
I would be so pissed if I were loyal McCarthyite from day 1 but he gave the plum assignments to the FC members that switched to him.
Absolutely! He’s rewarding their bad behavior and punishing the loyal.
I imagine some of the McCarthy votes this round are posturing.
Gosar voted McC and left the room looking like he’s going out to hang himself…
He always looks like that.
One democrat is not in chamber.
First time McCarthy got more votes than Jeffries.
Now they need to decide if they adjourn or go to the next vote.
McCarthy now has a plurality.
