House Speaker Contest

I think that’s three others now (Boebert, Crane, and I think Biggs). If Gaetz and Good stay no, it’s done.

No flip-backs this time. These are the remaining 7: Biggs, Boebert, Crane, Gaetz, Good, Harris, Rosendale.

This round none of them flipped (through Crane). Gaetz is a firm “no” too, so no progress this round.

I don’t think they have any wish to be representatives. I think they want to be inquisitors, given how much they go on about investigating Hunter, his laptop, and the entire “Biden crime family.” They seem to have no interest in representing their constituents in policy debates; just in nailing Biden et al. for something.

It’s payback time for what the Democrats did to Trump, in other words.

Sounds like maybe Harris flipped? Wonder what he got…

Harris, one of the holdouts, just voted for McCarthy, so there is some movement.

Well, of course, from your perspective. From the perspective of all the sickos making the $5 and $10 donations, these people are heroes. It’s extremely bleak. I think people are ignoring what it signals for the future. People always talk about how to “move the party” one direction or another. This is how you do it.

Right. Their followers feel their job is “fighting”. And those followers feel that the purpose of fighting is NOT to achieve something, but to hurt your adversary in a way that distresses him more than your own injuries distress you.

Who just voted for Jeffries that got a huge round of applause?

Do you think the rallying of the holdouts around Jordan is a signal that they’d actually vote for him if McCarthy stepped aside? Saying, in effect, this could all be over if McCarthy stopped being stubborn, but WE are going to be stubborn forever. Or is it just more trolling?

The Democrat who missed the vote earlier due to surgery. He dragged himself in.

Trone. He had surgery this morning (he was in a sling so on his shoulder?) and he came back to vote.

nevermind about that

What are we up to now, alphabet-wise? I can see the tally on CNN, but the audio has cut to Biden’s speech for the January 6 heroes. Going by the numbers, it must be at or very close to the end.

Just finished.

The vote is over for the 13th round. Just doing the official tally now.

Thanks, folks. Much appreciated!

McCarthy and Jeffries picked up 1 this time, So 214 for McCarthy, 212 for Jeffries and 6 for Jordan.

I haven’t kept up with all the proceedings today. Does that mean that 2 McCarthy Republicans are out of town?

From what the commentator said, Hunt is the other non attendee besides Buck. If they get those two back, it’ll increase the required vote to 218, whereas it was 217 for the last vote.

Yes, 2 out of town. Trone, for the Democrats, missed the earlier proceedings today for a previously scheduled surgery but got to the House chambers in time for the 13th vote. In hospital socks and slippers, no less.

It will increase it to 218 but both of them will vote for McCarthy so he gains two with the magic number only increasing by one.
