And McCarthy is on the naughty list, no Christmas pressie for him.
I think adjourning until Monday may be a dangerous move for McCarthy. Sure, it gives him time to try to tease out that one last vote. But it also sends all of the Representatives back to their home districts, where conservatives may get pummeled for having switched to McCarthy and moderates may get pummeled for agreeing to the rule changes. Any break that lets members rethink their position is a risk.
So why did the votes that McCarthy believe he had rescind?
That’s the million dollar question.
Because McCarthy is dumb. He’s no Pelosi when it comes to counting votes. They probably said something noncommittal and he took that for a yes. My guess, anyway.
Who knows. This is why this man should not be speaker. Cnn is showing the lunge over and over.

It certainly was. The person who I’m wondering about is the bearded congressman that was sitting to Lauren Boebert’s left. He looked like he didn’t want to be there at all.
The body language seemed to me like Boebert was acting as Gaetz’s bodyguard

At the very least for that he for sure had one more “present” which would have dropped the threshold to 216.
