Gaetz is present.
Doubtful what? How they will vote? I’m pretty confident it will be 6 Present and the rest McCarthy.
ETA: Oh, I see you mean it’s doubtful that the violence woke them up. You may be right. But I can’t imagine what else it would be. Certainly not a call from Donald Trump at this point.
Doubtful the post I responded to ^
That’s three moving from “Other” to “Present.” That should do it.
Looks like 6 are going present.
Boebert was flashing around T on her phone. Who knows what he’s got on Gaetz?
Gaetz and Good, present. Letting it happen.
The thing is, they have been saying it repeatedly over the past days in their nominating statements and pressers: they want the process to be one of for-the-record knock down drag out fights on the floor. They want the taste of any win for anyone who’s not them to turn to ashes.
“Sounds like one of your parties, sir.”
I’m curious why some with matching surnames are roll-called as ‘name - of state’ and others as ‘given name - surname’ …?
So the next big question is the rules package. McCarthy has promised but not all may feel that that obligates them.
I can smell somebody upstairs literally making popcorn. ;-D
Right, but that was during the vote in which they voted him down.
Gaetz reportedly got called by Trump during the vote to adjourn, but Gaetz didn’t change his vote. So why would dirt on Gaetz make the other 4 flip?
I think the holdouts (Gaetz in particular) all sort of realized “oh shit, maybe we pissed them off enough that they will find a way around us by Monday”.
I believe they use “Name - State” if that is sufficient and “Full Name” if it isn’t. Some states have multiple reps with the same last name. There are two Garcias in California, for example.
Some States, like Virginia, are occasionally used as given names?
If you voted for McCarthy, you voted for whatever promises he made to get the gavel. The members all know that.
The GOP members of late have shown no integrity at all in negotiations though. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them just “force” McCarthy to break come of the promises they didn’t like.
I’m watching now, but have missed most of today. Is the sense now that McCarthy has the votes due to some sort of agreement behind the scenes?
It’s to avoid confusion. Hence Green of Tennessee and Green of Texas. Also Lois Frankel and C. Scott Franklin. There are a few others, but the ones with unique last names are just called by their surname, e.g., Jeffries and McCarthy.
More than that. He’s caved on a lot of things, many of which are known not just to the caucus but are out in the press.
Rosendale abstains … for now. CNN speculating that he wants to be left until the end, for reasons.
