You’re very generous with your time to actually provide explanations and cites to claims that @HoneyBadgerDC couldn’t be bothered to explain before he bailed on the thread.
“More specifically, the Bidens reported an adjusted gross income of roughly $11 million in 2017 and $4.6 million in 2018. The bulk of that number comes from a multi-book deal with Flatiron Books valued at $8 million per Publishers Weekly, but the Bidens also earned a sizable income from speaking engagements.”
“The AP reports that Biden’s basic speaking fee was $100,000, but it ranged from $40,000 to $190,000. The New York Times also notes that Biden made additional unpaid speaking engagements during this time which are not listed on the disclosure, citing his campaign.”
“Additionally, the disclosures reveal that the former VP earned $540,000 as a professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.”
Aha!!! More evidence, more grist, more something money laptop man woman tv covfefe!!! Lock him up and the entire Biden Crime Family.
Damn, I’ve got to rethink that teaching career!
Having a teaching job at the Center with your name on the door seems pretty easy. What are they gonna do, not hire you?
This Board is about fighting ignorance. I didn’t want it to look like any allegation against the Bidens was automatically poo-poohed. The allegations that he was making have been reported on in the news media. I think that based on what I found, there’s not much to them.
Yeah, but the Republicans are not getting the results they want. No traction, legally, and a lack of evidence. But hey, if they keep talking about it, it must be true. Just like the Big Lie.
I mean, a third of Republicans still think the 2020 election was stolen, and the only reason for that is their leaders in congress keep repeating the lie. In sum - lying to their constituents helps keep their petty games relevant.
He got elected as a Democrat! That’s apparently enough of an impeachable offense for the Republicans nowadays.
Or, as you almost said a bit later, if they keep talking about it that will have the desired result at the ballot box and that’s all that matters to the talkers. Keep the rubes fired up to go vote a straight Reactionary Wacko Traitor ticket.
I wish the Dems got with the program and created a strategy to deal with the way things work now. The Dems on talk shows seem to think that by explaining the facts of the situation, the voters will be enlightened to the truth and see the impeachment for the farce it is. That’s not going to work. Anyone who would be swayed by that line of thinking is already smart enough to know that the impeachment is a farce. The Dems need to find a way to get through to the people who see the words “Biden” and “impeachment” close together in a sentence and reach the infallible conclusion it means Biden has therefore been convicted of being a traitor and should be put to death.
Honeybadger: Here’s some information to help you out:
This has been out there since August 9. Lots of bank records in there too.
Here’s some bank records for Romania and China:
I’m sure there’s a perfectly legal reason for money from a Romanian oligarch to land in the bank account of Hallie Biden, Joe’s granddaughter, along with 9 other Biden family members, after being shuffled through a web of 20 LLCs that appear to do nothing but shuffle money around for the Bidens to hide the sources and break it up into smaller, less noticeable amounts.
And some more:
This is not PROOF. This is EVIDENCE. More than enough evidence to carry out an impeachment inquiry. Oh, and there are also at least 3 whistleblowers who have gone under oath attesting to various suspicious activities and obstruction by the DOJ every time their investigations took them close to the Bidens. And two business associates under oath said that the ‘business’ the Bidens were selling was Biden himself. He was ‘the brand’, and the only reason the ‘brand’ mattered was access to power.
The cognitive dissonance over this caused CNN to issue the most bizarre ‘fact check’ in history, in which they confirmed every claim being made.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/13/politics/fact-check-mccarthy-biden-impeachment-claims/index.html
They lean on the crutch that nothing has been ‘proven’. Hey, CNN: That’s what investigations are for.
One more thing about the stupid talking point that this doesn’t matter if you can’t show money going directly to Joe: Benefiting his family IS benefiting Joe. If a guy came to me and said, “Do this corrupt thing and we’ll put your kid through college”, that would be a bribe, whether or not I personally received a nickel.
This is not evidence; it’s innuendo. It is a carefully tailored narrative to imply malfeasance without offering any actual evidence of a crime, nor any connection to Joe.
I’ve read all of Comer’s missives from the Oversight Committee. Here’s an important point to keep in mind: “The Biden family” is not Joe.
ONE: One of my attorney friends was involved in a Workers Compensation claim. The claimant denied having been able to travel. The Work Comp insurance carrier produced a screen shot of the worker’s Facebook page, showing several posts that were tagged as having been made in “Mount Laurel, NJ.”
They accused the worker of Fraud.
But the attorney Googled it, and found a known and very common Facebook bug that marked the post as having been made where the Internet Service Provider’s servers were located, and not where the Facebook user actually was.
Watching some on the right jump endlessly to conclusions – at the cynical and malevolent hands of their elected puppet masters – is sad.
TWO: Anybody remember “All The President’s Men --” the story of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein breaking the Watergate story? For much of the earlier part of the reporters’ fact-finding, the Washington Post’s executive editor, Ben Bradlee, refused to run the story, frequently telling Woodward and Bernstein, “You don’t have it.”
They didn’t have the story nailed down and properly corroborated. They “didn’t have it.”
Hey, GOP? You don’t have it. Allegations, accusations, insinuations, intimations, and innuendo are NOT evidence of crimes, and – so far – that’s all you have.
Keep investigating. That’s your job (though, it needs be said, it’s not usually aimed at private citizens). But stop overselling the above to your base in exchange for their continued blindly partisan loyalty and check-writing. It’s patently dishonest and bad for Democracy.
[As if any of them actually care…]
That is a good point.
Hunter Biden is Joe’s son, and he’s a criminal who has admitted to his (misdemeanor) crimes. So in a technical sense, the “Biden Crime Family” is a real thing.
I mean, it’s only one person, but still.
That’s why for the most part, I don’t really care that this investigation is happening, and from what I hear from others firmly in the Democrat camp, they don’t care much either. Either there’s nothing to find, which is what we think and hope, and make the investigation not find anything, or there is something to find after digging, and that would cause us to change our opinions.
If there’s something specifically that Biden did while President that showed an abuse of power, then sure, remove him. If he did something that abused his power as VP, that’s a bit of a shakier ground. I can understand the desire to remove him for things that are related to his past in politics, but all previous impeachment proceedings have been about the things that the President did while in power himself. The fact that they weren’t necessarily widespread knowledge when he was elected is certainly a good reason to suggest that the voters weren’t well-informed when electing him, but they still don’t relate to his activity as President. If he violated the law while VP, he can be charged with that criminally once his stint as President is done. To remove someone from public office for their behavior in the past just doesn’t feel right.
If you were paying attention, at least nine Biden family members have received payments from overseas interests through a web of shell companies.
Can anyone give me a rational fiduciary explanation for why Halle Biden should be receiving money from a Romanian Oligarch through multiple bank transfers and LLC’s? Or from CEFC, a Chinese energy company with links to state security?
This is the kind of stuff that triggered the SARs (Suspicious Activity Reports), and the IRS whistleblowers have testified that this was the kind of stuff they started looking at when the DOJ shut them down.
Of courae it’s not proven. That’s why you have investigations, Maybe there will be a completely innocent reason why the Bidens operated 20 LLCs that appear to have no purpose other than to shuffle money around to hide the sources.
You know, if Congress did the same thing for the trump “crime family” I think the amounts would be even higher.
This is equivalent to Irreducible Complexity: the human eye is So Infinitely Complex that it proves the existence of a Supreme Creator.
I, OTOH, don’t truly know how my TV works, but – IMHO – that doesn’t prove there’s a deity.
Also,
“BHR Partners (Bohai Harvest RST (Shanghai) Equity Investment Fund Management Co., Ltd.) is a private investment fund founded in 2013 by Bohai Industrial Investment Fund Management Co., Ltd., which is controlled by Bank of China Limited along with a partnership with Hunter Biden, and whose focus is on mergers and acquisitions, and investment in, and reforms, of state-owned enterprise.”
[And that’s just one. I probably raised it before]
So, yeah. Hunter Biden DID make money from the Chinese, as did Trump, his family, and Jared Kushner. It’s overwhelmingly likely that they ALL have LLCs, Trusts (including for family members), and other schemes to minimize tax liability and protect their assets.
ETA:
“Shell corporations are legitimate, legal entities that do not possess actual assets or run business operations. They function as transactional vehicles for a variety of firms and for a myriad of purposes. Generally, they are used to obtain financing, maintain control over a conglomerate company, allow firms more favorable tax treatment, and occasionally facilitate money laundering as well as other illegal activities.”
[bolding added]
If you search my home, it is theoretically possible that you may find firearms. Firearms are frequently used in crimes. That does NOT mean that I committed a crime with the theoretical firearms in my house.
Do you apply that same standard to Donald Trump, or Clarence Thomas?
“Biden family members” is not Joe. Shell companies are not illegal; Trump has dozens. Hallie Biden is not Joe, and it’s up to the accusers to say why that activity is illegal.
SAR’s are routinely issued for foreign payments, and over 3,000,000 SAR’s were issued the year in question. An SAR is not evidence of anything illegal occurring.
This is mere innuendo, not evidence.
Additionally, all of this happened years before Joe became President. What malfeasance occurred while Joe is President that would warrant removal by impeachment?
