I just read a thread in MPSIMS in which [hijack][/hijack] was employed three times. Last week I heard it suggested more than once that Dopers stop using that term.
So how about [tangent][/tangent]?

Are we really that sensitive?
It sounds like overkill to me. Or shouldn’t I use the word “overkill” either? Using a different word in this situation is merely a cosmetic gesture that serves no real purpose, IMO.
I don’t think anyone should feel they have to use “tangent” instead of “hijack”, but I believe the former is a perfectly acceptable and easy to understand alternative to the latter.
IMHO, use whichever you prefer. I don’t think it’s a big deal.
Well, all right.
However, I draw a line in the sand at “cosine.” This aggression will not stand.
What’s next?
Hmm…

[bleah]I’m going to use “tangent”. Just wondered if anyone was with me.[/bleah]
