How are flip laptops supposed to work?

We have an Asus Chromebook that has the flip feature. This means that when we open the thing all the way, the display includes a keyboard so that you can type directly on the screen and get what and where you want. But when we do that, the actual keyboard - now folded underneath and on the bottom - is still active and if you move the computer just so, the keys on the back will interfere with what you’re trying to do on the screen. I’ve always wondered if there’s a switch built into the hinges or someplace that is supposed to disconnect the actual keyboard when you flip the machine completely open. I’m about to buy a new one and I’d like to know what to expect. Thanks, Dopers. xo

I also have an Asus Chromebook Flip (C302). What mine does (and from reviews I read, this is the standard behaviour) is switch off the physical keyboard automatically when it is “flipped”.

If your keys are still active when the screen is flipped, I suspect you have a fault. That’s absolutely not the intended behaviour.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 710. The keyboard shuts off in tablet mode by default. It’s Win10 but there are multiple setting for how the computer responds to being flipped like that. Maybe your settings got messed up??

Aha - just as I thought. Thanks.
