How Are The Cheerleader-Musicians At Major League Soccer Chosen/Appointed?

You know, the guys who play the trombones and the drums and such while the crowd cheers. Are these people employees of the team? Sub-contracted professional musicians? Fans who auditioned (and if so, do they get paid)?

Also, do the crowd chants erupt organically, or is there a conductor (so to speak) initiating them?

If you’re not an MLS fan but a European (or elsewhere) fan, please feel free to explain your league’s procedures.

Thanks!

They are fans who have joined the Supporters Groups. Now there may be officially recognized Supporters Groups (who get a bit more leeway in bringing things into the stadium), but all those people are fans.

The Supporters Groups self select people to lead them in chants (capos) or play instruments.
