Tie-Breakers Determine ESPN Finals
Taylor, MI - November 9, 2002

Paul Fleming made Lonnie Waliczek earn his spot in the ESPN finals the hard way Saturday night in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Greater Detroit Open at Taylor Lanes.

In the deciding game of the best-of-five series and with the game on the line, Fleming entered the 10th frame needing a strike to win and a spare to tie.

Fleming knocked down eight pins and forced a one-ball roll-off. As the higher seed, Fleming chose the lane and decided to go first.

Knocking all ten pins down, he put Waliczek in control of his own destiny. Waliczek met the challenge, struck and forced another one-ball roll-off. Fleming left the 1-2-8-10 and gave Waliczek the opportunity to advance.

Needing just seven pins, Waliczek whipped his spare ball straight down the lane and knocked down nine, enough to advance and make his second television appearance of the season on ESPN Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
