Despite my reply above, I also donate to organizations and to strategic political campaigns.
Been doing that for years and haven’t seen much in the way of returns. But I can’t stop now.
Senator Patty Murray replied to my letter with a form letter. Here is is.
Dear [Johnny L.A.],
Thank you for reaching out to share your concerns about Elon Musk’s involvement in the Trump Administration. As the Trump Administration continues to create chaos and turmoil for the American people, few individuals have contributed more to undermining public trust in government than Elon Musk. Musk is working with President Trump to dismantle critical government agencies that serve the American people and block essential funding for families in Washington state.
To be clear, the world’s richest man, who has an abundance of conflicts of interest as they relate to government spending and priorities, has bullied his way into our nation’s most sensitive financial data and payment system. I am deeply concerned by the fact that Musk is choking off government funding left and right and handing over our sensitive financial data and systems to patently unqualified individuals with no accountability.
Spending is not a “conspiracy” just because Elon Musk doesn’t know how to read USASpending.gov. A program is not waste just because it doesn’t help the richest man in the world. It is not fraud just because he doesn’t like it. A law is not illegal just because he disagrees with it.
Elon Musk and his rogue DOGE employees have already tried to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau—an agency that protects you from fraud and has returned $20 billion to American taxpayers scammed by corporations—and USAID. They have their sights on gutting the Department of Education and dozens of other offices and agencies that support workers and families. Musk has already frozen grants that benefit his companies’ competitors, hacked away at agencies that compete with them, and fired government watchdogs that were investigating him and his companies—on issues from workers’ safety to medical product safety to ties with foreign governments.
Trump and Musk think the laws don’t apply to them, but that’s not how things work in this country. Billionaires are not above the law. Neither are Presidents. I will continue calling out the illegal and dangerous actions that Musk and Trump are taking and the blatant lies they are telling at every opportunity. I will also continue pushing for oversight, transparency, accountability, and action in Congress to rein in their damaging abuse of power.
As part of that effort, I am going to keep demanding Republicans call Elon to testify before Congress. The American people deserve answers—and if Elon Musk really has nothing to hide, he should leave his safe space on his social media platform and at Trump rallies, and come before a Congressional hearing to be held accountable to the public.
Thank you for reaching out to me with your concerns, and please continue to raise your voice. You have my commitment to do the same. If you would like to know more about my work in the Senate, please feel free to sign up for my updates HERE and be sure to follow me on Twitter (@PattyMurray) and Instagram (@SenPattyMurray). I hope you will stay in touch.

I mean, good I guess? I’d prefer she led a march or something.
^ That is from Johnny L.A.s Congressperson.
The American people don’t need answers to the corruption that we see every day. I don’t have any questions other than why was this allowed to happen? And who was involved in this clear and obvious treason and corruption. Though, we mostly know that already.
What the Country, and the world needs is justice.
Oh yeah. Contacted “my” representatives (Rubio, Cammack, some other shitheel), got a form letter from Cammack.
The legitimate function of protesting is not self expression; it is to change people’s minds. I doubt this can be achieved until Trump’s economic policies harm those of his supporters who are not rich.

Marco Rubio no longer represents Florida since he was promoted to Sec. State in January. Our Senators are now Rick Scott and Ashley Moody.

My wife has mounted a Ukrainian flag on the corner of our house, next to the front picture window.
Huh. Well, I didn’t want to talk to him anyway!
One of my senators answered my letter. This is better than her regular form letters:
Dear Mr. [L.A.],
Thank you for contacting me about President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
President Trump and his administration have moved to illegally cut the federal workforce in an attempt to come up with a budget and tax increases on middle class Americans. DOGE’s indiscriminate federal firings and funding freezes and recissions are impacting workers who work in Washington state, or who work on projects and programs vital to the people in the state. These federal workforce cuts are undermining our ability to conduct cutting-edge research, ensure public health, and maintain a strong agricultural economy.
To take a few examples of particular significance for Washington state, agencies such as National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service have all been targeted for funding reductions. These agencies are critical to our nation’s economic strength and security. Gutting them would be a grave mistake.
NOAA workers support our commercial, recreational, and tribal fisheries, which employ 1.7 million people, including thousands in the State of Washington. NOAA’s specialized workforce provides products and services that support more than a third of the nation’s GDP. DOGE fired more than 800 of them.
At a time when we are seeing more frequent and intense extreme weather events, we should be investing more in the National Weather Service and weather forecasting. Instead, the Trump administration fired meteorologists across the country. These are the people who help us know when to evacuate if a hurricane, fire, or flood is heading our way.
In 2023, the National Institutes of Health awarded $1.2 billion in highly competitive grants to the State of Washington at 65 different organizations. This supported 12,000 jobs and generated $3 billion in economic activity. But DOGE wants to cap the overhead expenses of research. For example, the University of Washington Medicine tells me that this would leave them with shortfalls and that they might have to stop clinical trials that are underway. Similarly, Washington State University researchers actively test novel drug treatments for advanced prostate cancer at Sharma Lab. If its work is disrupted, they say that the risk is high of not being able to replace data, endangering the ultimate viability of potentially lifesaving treatments. Research dollars save lives. But when medical research is halted, we lose innovative research, and patients lose access to potentially life-saving cures.
In addition, dozens of scientists and employees at Agricultural Research Service (ARS) have been terminated in Washington state—scientists who work on over 200 commodities, including wheat, potatoes, hops, and shellfish. The ARS workforce has been significantly reduced by DOGE and the administration.
These are just a few examples. DOGE’s actions thus far at other agencies have caused widespread chaos, hampered the ability of agencies to do their work, and provided potentially illegal data access to individuals with conflicts of interest.
There are many ideas that the Administration and Congress could work on together, in a bipartisan way, to increase government efficiency, produce billions of dollars in savings, produce better care for our constituents, and move our country forward. But the DOGE push to indiscriminately slash federal workers from the payroll, while compromising the vital ongoing work at federal agencies, is the wrong approach.
Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Maria Cantwell

I’m mainly planning to protest by leaving the nation. Once or if I get my health issues fixed, I may move out. It may take months though.
I’m also planning to emigrate, although it is slower going than I would like.
I’m boycotting some businesses, mostly so I can look myself in the mirror.
One thing I’ve been doing since January 6 is to sever social ties with Trumpists, including family, and let them know why. I know some people here think this is extreme, but I think that it has a bigger impact than just about any other kind of protest. I refuse to normalize fascism.
Makes sense, and provides you with an answer to the question of how “did you personally oppose the regime in 2025 “?
My wife was looking at properties in Scotland today, but Tuscany is more affordable and I’ve always wanted to learn Italian. Just a pipe dream at this point, but… Well, I never thought my conservative, devout Christian, wife would take an interest in politics.
We’ve hired a lawyer to essentially complete the paperwork so that we can buy property, we’ve identified where we want to buy land and the contractor to build a house, but the lawyer is moving slowly and my wife still hasn’t told her parents our plan.
If you had posted this in December, I might have questioned the superiority of Giorgia Meloni over Donald Trump, but as of today, Trump is worse.
My friend who used to be a backup singer for Pink Floyd, and who now makes her living touring Europe, has a place in Rome (and L.A.). She can put me in touch with someone she knows in Tuscany. The thing is, the decision is binary. We would have to sell our house to buy a place anywhere else. No going back.
