How big was your high school

My graduating class was about 1,600. The school was only 11th and 12th grade though with two 9th and 10th grade high schools that fed into it. A couple of years later another school was built in the city reducing class sizes. It is around 1,200 for the graduating classes now. We did a graduation ceremony where all kids walked across the stage and received diplomas. It took several hours. They broadcast the ceremony on local television for weeks afterwards; I’m sure it got stellar ratings.

Wiki says enrollment is about 2800, which seems the same as when I attended. My graduating class was 850.

How about the most racially-diverse school? When I graduated from Gatlinburg-Pittman High in 1995, we had maybe 700 students, and only one African-American student.

Mine would be at the top of the curve: African Americans make up 28.9% of the population, Caucasians 25.8%, Hispanics 27.5% and Asians 17.6%.

We weren’t diverse at all according to the true meaning of the word but we were about half black, half white, plus a few Mexicans thrown in (not Hispanics in general, just Mexicans). There wasn’t an Asian, a Jewish person, or or anything else other than that in sight though. We weren’t lily white by any stretch but we were only diverse the way NFL teams are (and our football teams were outstanding for such a small school).

Ahh, the memories of that attitude. Diplomas in hand, after doing the walk out of the auditorium bit, it was out to the courtyard area to light up our cigarettes. No more hiding our by the back doors for us!

250-something in the graduating class, so I went with approximately 1000 for the school option.

Springfield (IL) Southeast High School, Class of 1988

About 1400 and change, is what I always heard. My graduating class was 321.

Nowadays I hear it’s over 2000.

About 3900-4000 students…it irks me…I need to move to Oregon or some rural state.
