How can Captain Marvel be a woman?

I don’t know that this necessarily explains anything, but the Etruscans worshiped a sky god that was roughly equivalent to Jupiter, named Tinia.

Anyway, anyone else seen the movie yet? I just got back, and thought it was really good. A lot darker than I expected, particularly an early scene where Sivana establishes his bad-guy bonafides. But it avoids the mistake the DCU has been making, in not making the hero dark at all. Billy Batson is convincing as a troubled but decent kid, and Zach Levy really sells the concept of a fourteen year old in Superman’s body. I could have done with maybe ten minutes less of “Billy fucking around with his superpowers,” and like most origin movies, I really wanted to see more of him at the top of his powers, but those are minor complaints. Overall, I really liked it.

There’s two credit scenes - a mid credit scene that’s setting up the sequel, and an after-credits scene that’s basically an outtake from earlier. It’s pretty skipable.

On your recommendation, I downloaded a bunch of Character Corner episodes. I was really excited about this concept and I have listened to parts of two or three episodes. I’m trying to finish them but … I really don’t like the way these guys present.

Their banter is not funny, they waste too much time, making the postcards twice as long as they need to be with their not-funny banter, and they get hung up over minor bullshit as if it’s important. They don’t do any deep analysis of character, theme, or story, and just obsess over shallow stuff like “plot holes” and continuity. Really adolescent nerd perspective.

I’m not done with them yet but it’s not looking good.

He had nothing to do with tin. The English word is of Germanic origin, the Latin word being stannum, from which we get the chemical symbol Sn.
