A plus would have been to point out that Trump’s invaders, including Hannibal Lecter, are fictional characters. The dystopia is in his mind.
If he had said, instead of or in addition to the pet eating bit, that an army of Orcs, Visigoths, and the undead had invaded Springfield, it would not have been any more ridiculous. Yet people still support him.

The debate was too early. Her bounce will have plenty of time to wear off. Romney once – as measured by post-debate polling – defeated Obama just as badly, and Obama came back.
Comparing the performance of Obama in any debate to the display of insanity we saw last night from DJT is laughable.
Yes, whatever bounce Harris gets from last night could well wear off before Election Day but claiming Obama lost to Romney just as badly is ludicrous.
The race is far from over. But Harris undoubtedly solidified support, and Trump scared the hell out of a lot of people.
Remember that in 2016 - the only election Trump has ever won - both he and his opponent had very high negative ratings. Clinton v Trump was unprecedented in the degree to which voters didn’t like the candidates.
I do think that Trump was hardened that dislike, and likely expanded it. He’s angry, and unhinged.
I think a lot of people will be motivated to vote against that.
But we are still in mid September. We still have a fed rate cut to come, and that Trump movie (which is getting award buzz) arrives October 11th. A new trailer has dropped.
I suspect the biggest impact of the debate will be providing ammo for memes and political ads over the next couple of months.
And there was a lot.
As I said above, Trump is complete unhinged dogshit yapping about people eating dogs. If his cult wants to support that, and if independents want to choose that over Harris, then there is nothing that good people can do.
Do I think that independents will actually break that way and elect this orange slime mold again, eight years later? No. Do I think it will a huge blowout for Harris? No. Just a solid win. And that’s fine with me.

That was the first of three debates. Obama destroyed him in the other two. There is no guarantee there will be any more Presidential debates before election day. Apples and oranges.
