We are suspecting that a certain person has died, we checked the online obituaries like our city’s newspaper and obituary.com or whatever, but no luck.
I am wondering if there’s any other way we can track down this person. I’m thinking maybe reaching a relative? However, I wouldn’t know how to go on about that, either.
For an American, see the Social Security Death Index. They update that every weekday, I believe. And it is NOT just people on Social Security, it includes everybody.
You can check the Social Security Death Index, although not all deaths appear there.

My brother died in December 2009. I just checked the index including his SS# and it came up with no record.
The SS Death Index is not always 100% right. I can’t find two people in it I KNOW got SS and I know are dead. My mother’s birth and death date are all messed up. And an uncle who I know is dead died 10 years before he actually did according to the database.
I often wonder if these are just mislabled or are the dates of someone who really died then and the names just were not matched up.
Now if you want to actually find out someone, I can tell you what I did. And this has NEVER failed me yet.
I used it a lot with a temp job I had at a bailbond’s agent.
I would take the name of the person, and get a domain name like Markxxx.Com. If the .com is not there, usually the .info or some variant is.
Then I go make a simple website, with some bogus “boo-hoo-hoo stuff,” (you know a sob story). And Google will index it .
You see then people will COME TO YOU, with information. You won’t have to go to them.
It’s not terribly expensive. 1and1 is running a free .com promotion and you can get a website for a few bucks a month. Anyone can set up a simple “Hey do you know this guy” website with the WYSIWYG editor.
It never failed to provide me with an answer of a person I wanted to know the whereabouts of. The longest it took me was 3 months. Usually I get my first email in a week.
The important thing to remember is have the person COME TO YOU.
If you don’t want to go to the website, try this.
Go to Amazon and create an account. Then think about what the person you’re trying to find, would like. Then take that newly made account and make the display name (the name displayed on the review) the same as the person you’re looking for.
I did this twice and both times, someone wrote me an email (they can contact you through the Amazon site, if you set it up that way). I was able to track them down through that because the contact person thought I was them.
The whole point again, is go to sites and put the name down. You don’t have to use your real name. As long as it will come up in a Google search, it’s worth it. Don’t forget Facebook and MySpace. Make an account with that person’s name.
Social Security updates that every day, including an update this morning. It is updated with the information that is provided by the states or county coroners. I don’t suppose they provide updates every day, probably only monthly or so, depending on their budgets.
But 5-1/2 months does seem an excessive wait! I’d ask your local coroner about it.
