I get many offers for a piece of property I own. They have no interest in making a fair market value offer and assume I have no clue what the property is worth. I get really tired that they offer me 25 - 40% of the land value. If I ignore the offer, they send it again in two months. If I email them and counteroffer, they refuse and send me the same offer in two months. If I accuse them of outright trying to scam me out of my property then they ghost me in email then send the same offer two months later.
If I send them a cease and desist letter, does that have any legal weight? What are the consequences if they ignore the C&D and send me another offer? Is there any other way I can prevent them from legally sending me offers? One’s that carry some legal consequences if they do?
Any engagement of a counter offer infers you are interested in selling. If you’re not or simply don’t want to deal with the sender then write “REFUSED” on the letter and leave it out for the carrier to recover. Don’t open it. That way someone has to waste time on their end.
To my knowledge it is not illegal to make an offer to purchase someone else’s property. The USPS is common method for people to communicate with you and others. Email is another. If it becomes an irritant, then you have considered it junk mail. You are not required to respond to offers. You can simply trash them, like other junk mail that you may receive. I don’t know of anyone that has succesfully eliminated all junk mail or email. If you have done so, and this is your last bit of junk correspondence then consider yourself lucky and move on.
