I weigh 139 lbs and I’m 5ft11. At age 27, I’m one of the skinniest men you’ve ever seen.
I generally eat less than 2 meals a day. I get full very quickly and do not get hungry again for very long periods of time (6 hours+ usually). I am very picky with my food, It is normal for me to go inside the school cafeteria and not see anything I feel like eating (It’s not a bad cafeteria. It has good selection, reasonably good meals and outrageous prices). Lately, I hardly ever FEEL hunger. Usually, my stomach will start hurting me instead. It’s horrible. It is.
I’m trying to get in shape but, unsurprisingly enough, I have to consume HUGE amounts of food to gain the necessary mass.Drinking those carb/protein shakes after meals has proven to be “Mission:Impossible”-grade hard for me. They’re so sweet and creamy and rich…they just make me want to gag.
I’m going to make an appointment with the school physician tomorrow but It’ll be a while until he sees me (the waiting times here in the U.S are quite ridiculous if you ask me). In the meanwhile, I’d like to inform myself about my options. Exercise helps me a bit but nowhere near enough. So, how else can I increase my appetite.
Drugs?
Surgical operations?
Voodoo magic?
Let me know! Especially if you’ve been in my situation and can testify to what worked or didn’t work for you.
One of the ways I deal with my eating issues is to remind myself that I eat for nutrition, not for pleasure. Maybe it will help if you think about eating as a job and do it because you have to and not because you feel like it.
At your age I was only a stone heavier and I’m 6’3". This began to change when I was about 29 or 30. I began to put on weight quite seriously. I’m now fat and overweight at 39 weighing 17 stone. So I’m not sure you should really be worried.
The only difference I can see is that I always ate quite heartily.
Have you tried eating ice cream? It’s very fatty.
In the meantime try entering tose Mr Puniverse competitions!
My doctor suggested I drink Ensure or Slim Fast during the day when I’m not hungry. (Be prepared for comments like, “Why are you drinking Slim Fast? Are you annorexic? You think you need to lose MORE weight?”) No-- I drink it because it provides extra calories, vitamins and fiber-- all good stuff, and I can drink it even when I do’t feel hungry.
I was a stick thin young woman returning from an extended excursion in SE Asia, where I had dropped a couple of pounds, as had the Mr.
Back in the west it seemed a no brainer that the change in diet would do the trick, it had in the past. While it worked for the Mr, eight weeks later I still looked like a skeleton. (And, as an aside, I was having heaps of abuse piled on. Being accused of being bulemic, annorexic, and just generally being despised for being soo thin and eating food like a line backer. People treat overweight people with some sensitivity but the stick thin take heaps from all and sundry.) It was not nice, the slightest bump was wickedly painfull with plenty of bruising, most unpleasant for a clumsy being such as I.
Not to mention that I had no real jiggly bits, kinda important for a chick. I was so sick of it I was considering going to the doctor for help.
I had this friend, Dee, he was a great bear hugging man with a jolly big beer belly. I loved to hug him whenever I would see him. One day I was lamenting and he said he’d put me on his own diet that I should come see him every day when I got off work, in the bar next door.
It was a beer diet, now I don’t drink as a rule, I’m just not really good at it, is all. But I managed to choke back a beer 4 - 5 days of the week. He tried to get me to drink stout but I was having none of it. It ended up being a light draft, in a small glass like beer halls serve. It doesn’t sound like much but I’m here to say it worked like a charm. Within 5 weeks I was back up to fighting weight (about 103lbs, you can see why a few extra pounds made all the difference for me!).
When people commented on how much better I was looking, I would swagger about and say I was getting ready to fight Mike Tyson!
Even as a non drinker I managed it, and put on about 8 - 10 lbs, and kept it without difficulty, once I stopped the beer diet. My friend Dee loves to tell people this story in the bar. And I still love to hug him!
