It seems like the rabbits and birds and bugs etc… get to eat more of my strawberries than I do. What is the best method for protecting my harvest?
Leave the chocolate fondue inside until they’re all picked.
For rabbits and birds, you can put up a fence around the perimeter, then drape netting across the top.
Dunno whether this would work for bunnies, and it certainly wouldn’t work for bugs, but you can buy inflatable snakes. Seriously. I had a strawberry patch years ago and the birds ate the first few, until I bought the plastic snake. The birds would see it, not realize it was fake, and avoid this scary-looking “predator”.
It’s also great entertainment as you watch humans walk by, see the snake, and jump out of their skins. It’s a bit embarassing, however, when you scare yourself with the d*mn thing 20 minutes after you first set it out there. :smack:
No clue what to do about the bugs aside from spraying.
I think it would scare the p!ss out of my wife though  … which come to think of it might take care of the bug problem too.
I think I will try the snake and then the netting since I am lazy by nature and the rubber snake sounds more amusing anyway.
They make snake “decoys” that aren’t inflatible too. (Why not get several of those fake rubber ones that are sold as children’s toys? My hometown’s courthouse uses them to keep pidgeons from roosting on it, been using them for years.) Also owls. From the selection on this site.
For rabbits, you should don an oversized hunting cap and walk around tip-toeing with a double barrel shotgun. Be prepared to shot the rascals when you see 'em.
Peace.
